women have a higher life expectancy than men.

when a man gets married, his life expectancy increases.
if his wife dies first, it drops lower than where it began.

when a woman is married, her life expectancy decreases.
if her husband dies first, it increases higher than it was before.

so, you can draw your own conclusions.
