I think you should major in Psychology and work your way up to master's and eventually doctorate. Seeking a bachelor of sciences degree in psychology, would make you better prepared for a career in psychiatry. Vanderbilt is an excellent and challenging school to attend. Also, Nashville has many opportunities in mental health that are available, it is full of agencies that are looking for psychiatrists. Hope this helps, best wishes!

I don't want to rain on your parade but I have friends that went for Psychology and Psychiatry and expected cushy well paying jobs. Sorry to say but there is such a glut of psychologists and psychiatrists out there that its much harder to make a living in it now. Thats not to say you can't, but its harder. Just be aware of it when you're making your descision.

Hey Einstein (get it?), you would be a Psychology major. Psychiatry is Psychology. The differeince is you go to school longer because you learn about Pharmacology, and what medications to subscribe for your patients.
