It really depends on your 4 yr old. If he has seen other films like this than it is okay, but I would not be so much concerned about the content with this film but rather the attention span of your son. It is a long film and I think a 4 year old would get bored half way through if not earlier. In terms of violence, it is no more violent than cartoons, language is not bad and there are not any sex scenes. The big thing as mentioned is length and there is a lot of adult dialogue that would likely make a 4 yr old lose interest.

I think it is the same with most movies. I took 3 four yr olds to Cars recently and that film had mixed reactions by the kids. One loved it and was captivated throughout. Incidentally he loves playing with cars, but the other 2 could not sit still after 45mins. It was just too long for them to be contained and the information on screen did not engage them enough.

I took my 7, 6 and 4 year olds to go see it.
The 4 year old didn't really get into it and he loves Superman. The movie was just too long (over 2 hours) with only a few action sequences in it to keep a kid that age intrigued.
Wait till it comes out on DVD, that way you won't have to keep him occupied in a theater with a bunch of people trying to watch a film over a 4 year olds questions.

There is a part where Lex Luther stabs Superman, so be prepared to have to explain that one to him. Otherwise no sex, no drugs, most of the violence it superhero type saving the day. I don't remember any language.

Skip the theater, go see something else like Cars or Zoom were it is expected to have small kids asking so many questions about what is happening on the screen.

I would say no.
The film is 3 hours long, which is a bit long for a little boy to sit through.

Also, its not as innocent as the old Superman films. I found some of the violence quite shocking.... there is a bit where Lex Luther gets his thugs to literally kick the poo out of Superman... Im an adult and i found it hard to watch.

Your best bet is wait until it comes out on DVD, watch it yourself first and then make the decision.

In Britain the film was rated a 12......

He'll love it. Don't want to ruin it for you but Superman showed a special moment with his little son (yes son), too at the end of the movie. As an adult, I think you'll love it too.

I think he's too young. If he really really wants to see Superman I suggest you renting him the cartoon or something appropiate for small children like him.

Personally id say dont take him its on quite a bit, its not the actual film thats the probem its the 36minutes of adverts, unless you take him in as soon as the feature is ready to play. Good luck.

no hes not, its not scary, nor hasanything that will give him nightmares, i took my 3 year old daughter she loved it and keeps asking to see it again, also if you can you might want to take him to the 3D version (about 20 mins of the film is 3D) is on at IMAX cinemas. the only thing that could bother him is an explosion at the beginning, apart from that its pretty family freindly, hope this helps.

It's a really good film I thought it was better than I expected you would love it so would your son if he manages to stay awake as it's a VERY long film so if he has nerves of steel and can stay awake take him dont be so mean by keeping it all to yourself :)

My 4 year old daughter watched it but think it went over her head a little and she got a bit bored.

I dont think he is too young to see it but he may be too young to sit for that amount of time in a cinema.
Rent it when it comes out, home will be more comfy for him anyway.
