I liked EasyGradePro from Orbis Software. It did attendance, seating charts, reports, and more pretty well. In addition, it offers a version that can be synched with a PDA.

I used it for the past 8 years.

Man, great question! I've used a few of them over the past few years: Grade Machine and Integrade are two I recall having a pretty good amount of success with. However, the *best* program I've worked with isn't a program at all, but a website: http://www.mygradebook.com. You can either purchase an individual license yourself, or if (I believe) five or more teachers in your building wish to use it, you can get a group discount. It's web-based, so it's accessible anywhere you have a web connection. Parents can check student grades via a password system, and you can even set it up to e-mail parents whenever you update grades. The interface is very intuitive, and if you are web savvy at all, you'll be up and running in no time.

My biggest beef with educational software is that is never seems to be programmed with teachers in mind. There have been some gradebook programs I've used in the past (can't recall the names right now - must've blocked them out of my memory) that were so obtuse I'd find myself swearing at my computer. Mygradebook.com is, as I said, very intuitive, and at fifty bucks for a year's subscription, not terribly expensive. Plus, you get a whole month to try it out for free. Go to the site and check it out and see what you think.

I like Grade Quick. You can do all types of things, not just grades. You may want to find out which one your school uses first.

I like Grade Quick. You can do more than just grades with it. I also agree that you should check with your school district to see if they use one.

For ONLY grades, use Microsoft Excel, if you know how to do formulas
