If it does happen where can you go to get out of it besides being the only male child, and I think perhaps if the teen is in college, but not sure? Hey and if you leave the country don't you get in trouble? If it is to avoid enlistment?

I didn't see that about having high school sophomores reg ,when did that happen?
What is your source please?

I personally think the first to go should be those in Congress the old men that start the wars, that young men fight and die in. I am for a fight against terrorism, but not the war in Iraq,I support the military but not Bush,so I do not put anything past them. They are capable of reinstating the draft that's a scary thought people, would you sit idly by and let that happen?
I for one do not think you are a coward that's ridicules.
My husband was in the Army 20 yrs and a Vietnam vet,so I know what wars are ,do you people, leogirl, why don't you join the military and that will back up your mouth a little better, than idle rhetoric of someone not involved

It is not likely that they will start the draft again, there are still too many people who are glad to serve.
If they do start it again, who knows what the rules are, you are naming many of the rules they had in the 70s but they would write all new rules this time.
but under the old rules yes leaving the nation would get you in trouble, Only male child did not stop you from going, but it may keep you out of the war zone in a combat posistion
But the best thing in a draft, is to enlist and go into the field that you want and that would be the less dangerous

I am a conservative and support the war completely. I would have joined the military after 9-11 if not for permanent injuries from a car accident.
I heard a prominent former military guy on Fox News a few months ago (I do not remember who) state that we are ok now with enrollment. If we had to go into Iran, or another country and other countries would not help us, we would need a draft.
As for military recruiters meeting Spohomores, remember it is building relationships for possible future service. Also, many high schools have an ROTC program, which is a precursor to serving in the military for some.
I am not sure on exactly what are criteria that can get you removed from service.
If you draft dodge, it is a serious crime. We are obligated to serve and protect our country.

You could just refuse to go - what are the stupid Fascist bully boys going to do to you?
There are some reasons for and against bringing back drafting - it makes the population (because women would probably be drafted too now) fitter and "more respectful" (apparently), would of course make the military much much more numerous. However the draft is very unpopular, especially as conscripts are much more likely to be killed than regular soldiers. Conscripts are also much less likely to kill (something like 60% of soldiers in the Korean War said they never fired a shot) - so what would be the point in having them if they're not useful, and it would be politically very unpopular.

A lot of recruiters head to my school. They take advantage of the fact that most kids in my school come from low-income families and are pretty much clueless as to what they will do after high school. It's sad because these recruiters make many of these kids actually believe that the army is their only option in life and that college or other things are way out of there league. But hey, I guess it's their job, recruit as many young men/women as possible. :-(

I was about to say no way! Not even Neo-Cons are that stupid... But when I read your note about 14, 15 year olds registering, I started doubting myself.
If they impose a draft, you can always move to Canada like many did in the Vietnam War. Draftees are welcome here in Canada. The only detail is that you will probably be unable to go back for many years.

I've never heard about any of this. They will not reinstate the draft unless there is a reason to. There will be plenty of news coverage and talk on capital hill before that. You don't need to worry. If it comes to the draft, then your help will be needed. If you would prefer to leave, then go for it. Hopefully this time there won't be a schmuck president to let your lazy liberal butts back in.

Don't panic. Unless we are seriously invaded by a land force, or engage in a major offensive ,the draft will remain a thing of the past. By major offensive, I mean having to go in and kicking a substantial army in the ***.
