I think you owe our nation's finest an apology. The reason you hear about police corruption in the news is that it is unusual, if it was the norm it wouldn't be news. These men and women are doing a difficult, demanding, dangerous, and frequently thankless job, and doing it for not much money. People who complain about them should try living someplace where there are none, Iraq is a good example. I may not agree with all our countries laws, in fact I actively oppose many, but I would never disrespect the people who enforce them, if I were a judge though, and a bent cop came before I would throw the book at him, on behalf of all the good ones that will be tarred with that same brush.

not all are crooked. some of them are, however.

the problem is intensified by a view among cops that they are a breed apart from the rest of the human race, who are "civilians" or "perps" to them, an "us vs. them" mentality.

they are fawned over as heroes by television shows and by the media rather frequenrtly, and are the beneficiaries of huge numbers of federal dollars which buys them new toys which make them look like the soldiers they always wanted to be when they were kids.

because they are a breed apart, they often think they are entitled to more things and will sometimes take them at their leisure whether right or wrong.

no not all cops. only some.

I had a wonderful experience with law enforcement when I was a kid. My friend and I, around age 11, had bought a pizza with our own money and were ripped off on our way home with it. We called the police -- honestly, what could they do about it? -- and the officer who responded took me and my friend out to see if we could spot the kids who'd robbed us. He then took us to a pizzeria and, out of his own pocket no doubt, replaced our pizza and bought us sodas. As an adult, I"ve had other good experiences with cops -- where they did the moral/ethical thing. Maybe these guys weren't perfect -- I don't know if they were in other ways corrupt -- but, like everyone, they also had their good side. In the end, we are all only human.

I don't think they are. You just hear about the bad policemen/women, and think that all police are like that. Police do a good and honorable job, and we should be thanking the majority for their help rather than harassing them for the few 'crooked' officers that cast a shadow on the entire profession.

Always room for a bad apple. Most cops are honest but there are exceptions. It's the exceptions you hear about or read about. Don't judge them all by those exceptions and maybe take a moment to thank them for the job they do.

Law enforcement is the people business....and with ANY people business, you are going to have SOME corrupt workers. Good vs. Evil, the Yin/Yang, Night vs. Day (not an acutal court case), whatever you see the balance between the two as, society has a mix of good people and corrupt ones.....and yes: people from BOTH sides are in law enforcement.

Who can stop them? When they speed, run a red light, or give you a ticket without any proof, the court always give them the benefit of a doubt. You are just screwed. I proved that a police officer lied in court and the judge still fined me. Don't trust anyone in government, they cover each other before they protect you.

Because they are cops and can pretty much get away with it Who checks a cop? Another cop and then any thing they find is pretty much kept secret from the public to protect the police dept.s image

Most police are honest and hard-working. They put their lives on the line for us every minute of the day. They are very poorly paid. How much do you think you should earn a year to put yourself into harm's way for a stranger?
