ME TOO
I'm in the same position right now.
I'm about to start college and I m not sure what to pick .....
Few months ago I was doing some research about English Majors and I found out that this major is VERY FEXIBLE when it comes to job hunting.
As far as I know employers value the English alot because this students can read and learn fast, they are well aducated and very professional, and let's face it .... when it comes to business or anything basicly every employer would like to have a well educated employee.
Thats one of the main reasons I wanted to Major in English but then again employers look for people who are specialized in one area.
So I'm thinking about Majoring in Business Management and English ( as a minor or probably major as long is posible )
To me seems like a good combination and it should open the doors everywhere ......... well at least I hope so .....but I'm gonna explore more when I start school.
Good luck
anybody has more info ...

Depends on your priorities. I'd major in business, and minor in English. That way you get the Business degree for steady work, and the English experience to put to use in the future when you can get out there and do what makes you happy.

I majored in English and minored in Business, and found very few job opportunities. Currently I work as an ESL teacher for $18/hour, but I have very little job security and no benefits. I am going back to school in September for a second degree in Education. My #1 best piece of advice is to join your university's co-op program, so that you'll get practical work experience as part of your degree program. This makes a big difference when it comes to graduating and finding a job.

Why not major in both? You could major in Business and English. Most schools probably require an emphasis in both of those majors. The emphasis in business could be management and the emphasis in English could be something like communications. The two majors would complement each other. And if done right you could still get out in four years.

Ask yourself "What do I want to do for the next 50 years?" That might lead you in one direction or the other. Also consider which will better assure you of a job when you get out of college. What can you do with an English degree other than teach. Even that unless you have the correct other classes, won't be an option. But English might help in writing if that is where you want to go with your life. Business affords more options hawever, if you don't really like business it makes no sence to tough it out in that field. Only you know how you feel. Talk to your advisor and ask them point blank about job options in each field. Then go from there. Good luck!

Your choices should be what your mind and heart tell you. Think about business, and then observe how you feel about it. If it doesn't feel right, I wouldn't reccomend going for it. If you like Engish, then you should take it up as a major. No matter what you do, remember that life involves working hard, and it is always better if you have lesser majors and love them rather than having higher majors and hating them.

I have a master's in English, working on my PhD ... I started teaching English at the university level when I was 24, and I love it ... if you think you'd like teaching, Engl is good because you can structure your classes liberally, as long as you get the class objectives across. I'm very satisfied with my choice over something "more practical" such as business.
