I know this may sound crazy but I want to do it by myself. Has anyone ever pierced their lip by themselves? How did you do it? And what did you do it with? Don't tell me I'm crazy cuz I'm really not. I have just wanted one for so long!

Wow I didn't think I would get so many "don't do it" responses. I have heard of so many people doing it by themsevles and it never got infected. I'm afraid to do it BECAUSE of infection but then again, I dont start school until september.. BUT then AGAIN, I can't hide my face forever.

Don't do it yourself.
•••A Few reaons not to home pierce•••
•You need a proper needle that is the correct gauge , it has to be surgical stainless steel.
•You have to be able to sterilize all your materials, properly, which you can't do unless you have an autoclave. You also should have the proper materials, which includes a clamp.
•Home sterelization procedures do not work, they lead to infection.Burning your sewing needle with a flame does not clean it, it actually makes it more dirty, and it can burn the coating off because the cheap metal is not made of surgical stainless steel.
When you pierce it, this coating flakes off and gets lodged inside of your skin. Also the butane from the lighter, goes onto the needle and also goes in the piercing.
•You also can't do a proper follow through with a sewing needle, or a saftey pin. This causes more trauma to the piercing and can lead to longer healing, bad scar tissue, rejection, infection and migration.
•Inexperienced piercers do not know the correct size of jewlery to put in. You can not put in jewlery that you regularly buy, you have to put in sterelized starter jewlery to accomidate for the massive amount of swelling that oral piercings will produce. Many home piercers put in jewlery that is too small and then they can't get it out, then they can't remove it.
•There is wrong places to pierce.
There also is specific angles, not all the time do you go straight through. Thats is where the clamp comes in and experience with piercing.
You want the ring or labret stud to sit properly and not rub against the gums or the teeth. If so this can cause, gum erosion, tooth decay and many problems with your mouth.
Dentist bills can cost you a lot more money than a piercing.
Get it done professionally.

I dont think you should pierce your lips because in most cases with lip piercing your lips will get really big and swell more often also it's a bit disgusting. Why dont you pierce your ears or nose.
If you do want to- I RECOMMED NOT TO
leave it to the professionals please dont do it by yourself.

The metal from the stud or ring does a lot of damage to your teeth over time. There's more maintenance than with ears, eyebrows, nipples, bellybuttons, etc.

I have had my labret pierced now for 4.5 yrs...I got it done by a professional.....That's what I'd suggest with you as well....It's too risky otherwise.
