He sometimes tells me that I'm great, and that he enjoys talking to me. We get on very well. We laugh a lot together, and have various in-jokes. We tend to think in the same way, and often say things the other was about to say. We're friends, but I can't tell if he likes me as more than a friend. He's a few years older than me, and he says he's shy and he doesn't meet many women in his normal life. I once told him that no one ever likes me as more than a friend and he said 'I'm sure there are those who care deeply but don't express it'. How much should I read into that? He's the sort of person who everyone gets on well with, and he has lots of friends, but I think he talks to me more than a lot of those, and we have more deep and meaningful conversations! He says I'm a good listener, and he wants me to be his 'sounding-board'. We talk on MSN quite a lot (I know him in real life too). Short of asking him (which I don't have the confidence to do), how can I tell what he thinks of me?

aww this is a bit awkward, isnt it? You could ruin everything about your friendship if you say something and he doesnt feel the same way. On the other hand though, things could be soooo much better if you do say something!! Just give subtle hints if you can, see what he says and how he reacts! Ask him if there's anyone he's interested in at the minute. If he says yes, ask who it is! I know he's shy but he might be just as sick and confused about your relationship as you are! In which case, he might just blurt out that its you that he likes!! Or when you are talking and having a little joke with eachother then you should say ''oh man, i need to find myself a guy who is just like you'', he might say the same about you and then you could say ''well why dont we just go out with eachother then?'' if he says no, you could just say you were kidding! That way you'll still get your answer and even if its not the answer you want, there wont be any damage to your friendship!! Give it go and let me know what happens!! well if you want to anyway!! The first thing that came to mind is watch out for shy because it can mean insecure and if a guy is too insecure to tell you he wants to be more than friends and plays little head games with you then this is a sign of problems.
However if he is as well rounded as you say, then FLIRT girl, smile a little longer than usual..., you know, let him feel invited to take a chance.
Don't be like me! I was actually pretty hot in my younger days, but never got dates because I suck at flirting. Guys need a signal to let them know they might stand a chance. If you don't give it a shot you could be sitten home alone like me when you get to be my age. :) Good luck.

Your problem is not unique, your main issue is fear. Your afraid of rejection and more importantly your afraid of what this person will think of you if in fact he/she finds out that your feeling are not mutual. My advise to you is simple. Keep it a secret! don't reveal your true feelings to this person. Try nurturing your friendship with this person, if this person likes you great!, if not, perhaps this person will grow into falling for you; but if you risk telling this person, it could mean the end of your friendship. goo luck!

you need to do it in person soo call him see when yall are open and say you really need to talk to him (if yall cant see each other in person talk to him on the phone) but any waz say i really need to kno somthing do you like me more than a friend i really REALLY need to kno, if you like him say, i really like you i need to know please tell me please and if he says yes maybe yall will get hocked up good luck
