i was and i think its an awesome program. with the number of parents that arent stepping up and giving their kids as much info as they need, i think this program is necessary.

I had that classe once a month in 4th or 5th grade. To be honest, back then, I was just glad not to have to do any work for that hour. Now, I am friends with a police officer that does DARE here, and I think it is a better program. I really am glad people are willing to step into children's lifes. There are a lot of parents that don't talk about Drugs , Guns, or even smoking anymore. I think some parents need to be in a DARE class!

I had to do it in fourth grade. I won an award for a paper I wrote. It's a good idea, but I just don't think it's for everybody.
I did it, but I still smoke, and drink. But I'm not dumb about it. If nothing else I got that from it.
Whether you want to use drugs or not is a personal choice. It's great that they give out the anti-campaign's info, but at the end of the day You have to make your own choice and nobody should force you into it.

Back when I was in grade school some D.A.R.E officers came to the school and visited each classroom. I think it's a good program.

Had never heard of it til just now - I'm from Liverpool in England, I guess D.A.R.E must be American. Sounds like a great idea for kids, and I'm sure we must have stuff like it here. (I don't have kids so wouldn't know personally).
I love this Q&A - am learning new stuff all the time! xx

I took DARE the very 1st year they put it in the schools, (yes, i am that old!) and it is a huge part of why I never did hard drugs in school. I learned alot from that program, but I don't know if kids pay attention to that stuff any more. Maybe if they started it a little younger

I was in D.A.R.E. in the fifth grade, and I don't really remember hearing anything I didn't already know.

no i stay away from drugs. i know people who ruined there life with drugs. so i don't need d.a.r.e. i just use common since, anything that makes you not fully aware of things must be harmful. if it ain't necessary why get caught up in the hype of drug abbuse.

if you are speaking of the drug program, yes we had to do that in 5th grade where i'm at. i thought it was quite boring. it is good that we are trying to teach children at young ages that drugs are bad, but it wasn't ever re-enforced where i went to school and the how world of drugs changes. by the time i went to college the lingo, the uses, the prices, the availablitiy, and even the new drugs had changed so much from when i was in dare.

I was in 4th and 5th grade. The school made us participate in the program. However the cop who was doing it was very sexy.
All kidding aside, it was a very good program and it helped give us more knowledge about just exactly what drugs do to you.

It was a requirement that you passed D.A.R.E to pass the 5th grade. No joke, it was stupid!
