Hurley has a big secret. His past will be an intrical part of the lost storyline. Even though it seems like he is still too overweight, if you go back through the first season he has lost weight. If he did too rapidally then it would be too unbeliveable. It would actually be quite difficult to manage that off screen maybe he has a nutritionist or something

Physically or personality-wise? Well personality-wise, he's a bit of the comic relief character, but he is an emotional eater, and has numerous issues that are outlined in the flashbacks (I won't go into detail, I don't want to accidentally spoil anyone).
Physically, he's a bit overweight, has rather frizzy hair, sideburns, and a really cute smile. :)
