I've got to pull up some old carpet in my new house that my dog has christened because it reeks!! I'm eventually going to install laminate flooring but what can I do in the meantime, it's an area in my hallway that's about 7 ft x 3 ft. No wood underneath, I'm assuming it's just concrete but haven't looked yet.

If you don't have a crawl space in your foundation, then you have a slab flooring. If you see some rectangular vent opening on the lower side of your exterior wall, you have a wood sub-flooring. You can use runner's temporarily. It comes in many kind of material. Plastic, carpet, rubber, etc. Or you can simply leave it bare to the subfloor until you install the new flooring, so you will save some money. good luck!!

go to Lowe's or home depot or a discount store and buy the squares of tiles this is cheap and easy to do this will last for a while but it isn't something you would want to put down permanently ..or take your carpet up and see what kind of condition the floor is in,,can it be cleaned and scraped easily..and put down a big area rub or paint the floor until you can afford the good stuff

Look on the internet for laminate floors, as reasonable as under $1 per sq foot, you wont find anything cheaper than that, unless you paint.

Peel and stick tiles are ur best bet.Plus when ur ready to put in something permanent ( carpet,or wood) you dont even have to pull them up,just lay over them. cost around $50 bucks or less

it's more than likely concrete clean the concrete real good, and get self adhesive tile flooring from the dollar store. get some other type of glue to make sure it will stick, then when your ready to put your new flooring in you will have something laid out to adhere the new flooring

Why not just paint the area and put down an area rug, that cheap enough?

stain plywood... i seen it in a friend's kitchen, they stained it blue, then varnished the hell out of it. They screwed it down with shiny bolts and decorative washers (and used these on the cab doors to match) and it looked great.
