China is one of the most educated countries. But from all the pressures of school, it also has one of the highest suicide rates. Why isn't anything done about it?

China has been through dictatorship and communism. They probably carry some of those ideas into government. They don't care what people think. Also, China is a big country that is over populated and condensed. It's hard for them to keep track of things or to even care. People everyday are doing illegal things like selling fake products out on the streets. Many are homeless and are begging on the streets. People are riding their bikes through traffic and the busy roads and have very high chances of getting in an accident. Their are no real lines on the roads or lights that people follow, it's all a mess. The water is very dirty and you can't drink from the sink. I could go on but I rather not. My point is that China has too many problems for them to really care about what people think of their government.

It's not the government that purely emphasizes education. It's mostly coming from the parents. They want their children to do well in the real world with an education. But, I agree, people here have absolutely no idea how much they attend school. It's probably just because the country has been used to it for so long.

if something was done, they would be admitting there was a problem. China dosn't have a good record of admitting problems in their own country. It seems that they want to try and fool the other big countries into thinking they have it all together. fat chance. no country has it all together!

I believe that you are actually referring to Japan. And there performance is highly valued. It is interesting, when we here comparisons of Japanese and US highs school students academic performance that we never seem to hear this suicide statistic in the conversation.
