I don't think race is important on one level, but on another, I think that your heritage can be a very important thing to an individual. I have asked from time to time, a persons ethnicity, not because I am a racist, but because people interest me. I love the fact that people can look so different and still be so much alike. I am one of those people, that just like people, because they are, people.

i really don't know. Hmmm, I think it could be that people prefer the race they really like. People have a question about race first, and then you as a person second. But I don't think race is very important. Just don't worry about these people.
I agree with you when you state that a person is more important than race. Don't be a racist.

it is only important to ignorant people. Some people are just too darn curious. I speak with an accent and every day somebody asks me where I am from.
Anything different will need an answer for some people. Do not let it bother you.

I don't think it is important at all. Honestly who cares. It doesn't make you any different of a person. People probably ask because they are curious, people tend to be curious about things which are different from their experiences
Or they just might be stupid...
That is always possible

People define themselves by their race because often race defines cultural background and ways of living... I think this is much less the case in true melting pot societies like Brazil.
Peoples' assumptions that this is valid become slightly confused when they meet people like yourself who are mixed. Tiring, but keep challenging them. You'll open their eyes...

I think the media and the government pushes people to choose and thus people are almost forced to ignore their full background and togetherness in humanity. As long as we are divided the government has us under control.

Yeah I'm mixed too and I hate it when people say "you must be confused". I'm not, they are!! You're lucky to have the deeper perspective that your mixed heritage gives you. If people don't understand, try to be patient and enlighten them.
Btw "what are you" isn't by itself an offensive question, usually people are just curious. I would think it more offensive if people thought I was offended that they think I'm not wonder bread white.

It's only important to people who make it important. Some people are just ignorant, or they could just be curious.

Race is not important to me at all. I could care less what race you are. You could be a 'whatever' for all I care. In fact, most people are 'whatever's' anyhow, whether they KNOW it or not, or whether they ADMIT it or not.
