I work in a hotel and everyone is trying to think of ideas for our Christmas and New Years Packages. I was just wanted to know what people like for, I guess you could say "universal gifts" that are still Christmasy and holiday-ish.

Walmart gift cards are good 10-25$ or so
also I think most any women love a bath set
as for men the gift card is always good

other then that a company dinner at a nice restarant with a white elephant gift game those can be fun

The white elephant gift exchange is a popular party game played during the winter holiday season in the United States. The objective of the game is for guests of a party to each contribute one gift to the game, and ultimately each guest walks away with one gift from the game. Along the way is a random drawing to determine the order in which players get to unwrap gifts or "steal" previously opened gifts.

The game is also known as Yankee Swap (New England), Dirty Santa, Grinch Exchange, Rob Your Neighbor, Nasty Christmas, Chinese Gift Exchange, and Thieving Secret Santa.

I would say probably gift cards to either a store or a popular resturant. The problem I had with food gifts were 1. The person I got for the first year was diabetic (i got chocolates unknowingly), and the second time I did a food it was a fruit and nut combination...to someone who was allergic to nuts. I would leave out food, unless you know the person fairly well, and they don't have any food allergies.

I'd think Candles and a candle warmer. I have one and I love it. The candle melts but once you turn the warmer off, it turns solid again and looks brand new. The candle lasts forever that way. I bought several different fragrances and whatever I'm in the mood for is what I put on the warmer. As expensive as some candles are it's nice for them to last so long. Most of the guys I know like candles too.

for the packages: iPods or MP3 players, scented candles, body lotions, manicure sets, comforter sets, socks, PJ sets....
you might want to think of some themes and have everyone vote on which theme they like best, then go from there. you'll find it easier to find gifts this way because ya'll can buy things that relate directly to the theme. for example, since ya'll work in a hotel, you can buy things for the packages like, pillows/blankets, PJ set, bath/shower gel, towel, body lotion, etc...
it's a corny example, but you get the idea.

Is this for the patrons of your hotel, or as gifts to give other employees?

I would say anything consumable, like chocolate, bath stuff, etc. or a gift certificate so they can make their own choices would be best. Non-consumables tend to become regifts.

Small gift certificates or bottles of wine are nice gifts for coworkers.
It is hard to give ideas without knowing the people and price range for the coworkers gifts.
I would suggest setting up a price cap for gifts and then going from there.

If you're mailing overseas, keep it light and mail soon.

Depending on where people are pretty scarves and cute knitted slippers are nice for most women to have , especially in the colder climates.

Cds or dvds are good for both sexes hopefully you know their tastses.

Writing paper is always nice , especially if your friends or relatives like to write letters.

Pretty costume jewellery or a not too expensive bracelet or bangle.

I would say the "gift of food" is always welcome; start stocking up on certain specialty items (use the net for unusual foods from around the world) and go on EBAY for nice/inexpensive baskets, nice bows, perhaps a little glitter and fill each basket with great, unique food items: think Mid Eastern, Polish, German,Italian, Japanese, local artisans for cheeses/jams/jellies; Give one to each friend according to taste and/or personality/adventurous spirit!
