when you serve make sure that you toss the ball in front of you. make sure that when you hit the ball that your arm is extended fully. when you go to hit the ball make sure that you snap your wrist and that you follow through fully. that will help a lot.

Make sure you are using a continental service grip. Also, on itunes and youtube, there are videos of pros' serves. Watch those, and it will help you learn how they gain pace and spin! In the app store for apple, there's an app called Tennis App (not very original) that's very helpful! It's actually a newsfeed for tennis articles, but if you click on downloads, there are videos of the Bryan Brothers and Jelena Jankovic doing different strokes in slow motion, and you can watch part by part. (Ex. Watching the toss, then the knee bend, etc.)

If you are consistantly hitting the ball into the net, or your own court, I would guess that you are dropping your shoulder. A good tactic to help with this is to point at the ball as it comes down. I wouldn't worry about power so much as placement. I've played players who I could blast off the court, but they beat the pants off me becuase they always get the ball in play and they have great aim.

Just keep on practicing. YOu will eventually learn by trial and error. For tips... keep your arms loose and just use your instincts. I think different people have different serve style so that's all i'm going to say.

have a baseball throwing motion, toss up in front of you, so if it falls, it will land about a foot in front of your font foot.
bend knees, rotate shoulders.
serve is the hardest part of the tennis. practice, practice, practice...

dont flick your wrist, move your whole arm, from your shoulder. it will give your serve more power and control. it'll take some getting used to, though.
