Because that's where they originally came from thousands of years ago before the Romans threw them out around 73 A D. If someone threw you out of your home, wouldn't you want to return to it at some point?

Yea i think moises was short sighted man, at his age he made many many mistakes , like tellling israelis the is the promissed land. Hawaii is.
look its a desert they are fighting for those israelis, is some years the will want to stael watres from their neighbors, how dumb can you be to live there.

because the west (ie USA and UK, among others) wanted an ally in the middle east to act as their "police force" in the area to make sure stealing middle eastern oil in the future was made as easy as possible.
