Absolutely. It is a really great book and was a Newbery Award Winner. Jerry Spinelli really knows how to connect with kids.

The great thing about the book is that orphan Maniac (Jeffrey) Magee is a fascinatingly self sufficient character who, because of the way he has been (or not been) raised really has none of the usual prejudices that would come with a kid his age. Like a real folk hero Maniac also has incredible abilities. Despite circumstances that would lead some to feel rejected Maniac is a superstar.

This is a truly amazing book for kids and adults alike.

Absolutely! Loved that book when I was 12. It might be long for some students b/c it's 200 something pages, but those who try hard will love it.
