Having lived in Florida for as long as I have, I would say the the ABSOLUTE best times of the year to visit Florida would have to be Mid-April to Memorial Day, and Labor Day to the first week of November.
The Fall is especially the best time! That is the best time to also plan a visit to the Gulf Coast in the Tampa area! The weather is still warm, the water temps in the Gulf are still above 80 degrees, and rainy season is over!
As for hurricanes, there are no guarantees. However, I will say that the Panhandle area of Florida has statistically had twice as many hurricane hits as all the other parts of Florida put together. Texas, Louisiana, Alabama & Mississippi have been hit even more!
As for a good place to stay near beachs and golf courses, I'd recommend the following locations:
- Don Cesar Resort - St. Pete Beach
http://www.doncesar.com/
- South Seas Resort - Captiva Island
http://www.southseas.com/
- Westin Innisbrook Golf Resort - Palm Harbor
http://www.golfinnisbrookresort.com/
If cost is a major issue, I'd recommend:
- Homestead Suites - Clearwater/Largo on Ulmerton Rd.

Hope this helps!

LOL Sorry, that's a legit concern I guess. It's just that I've lived here for 45 years or so. Though hurricanes can be very deadly they usually aren't if you heed warnings when they come. Most people that are harmed don't. Hurricanes that late in the year are rare. June to Sept is the hurricane season. The weather is pretty nice that time of year also. Seems as though you are never far from a golf course in Florida. Beach either for that matter. Best thing you can do is just look on-line. It really depends on what part of Florida your in. It's a pretty big state. All parts of it has their charm. And it's not all the same. The big city areas of course are just like big city areas anywhere and have the same kinds of drawbacks.

I'd need to know which part of FL. you are going to. Hurricanes are usually about gone by that time. The waters have cooled somewhat. The weather in Pensacola is pleasant about that time of year on most days. I went swimming when I was there once at Thanksgiving. Pensacola seems to have a little milder weather than some other parts. I know it's been hit hard by hurricanes over the last few years and not as pretty as it used to be, but just a few miles away is Perdido Key and it has a great golf course (or it did a few years ago). It's gorgeous there.

Depends on what part of FL you want to go. Oct/Nov time frame is the very end of the hurricane season, so you should be fine. I reccommend the Destin area it is in the panhandle. There are gorgeous beaches there and more to do. I however do not reccommend Panama City, it's really a let down. I hope this helps.

I live in Florida (Miami). It's really great weather all year round. Hurricanes are nothing to be afraid of especially since forecasters warn us of them several days before they hit land. I have lived in Miami my entire 33 years of life and I have only experienced 1 bad hurricane back in 1992. All the rest were minor. The news always makes it look worse than it is.
I don't know of any golf clubs which are also close to beaches. If you stay on South Beach though, Aventura (nearby city) has golf clubs and one of the best malls in South Florida! I hope you enjoy your visit.

Yep, its hurricane season in Oct/Nov (I'm actually watching a documentary about Hurricane Katrina right now!). Go early in the New Year instead, much cheaper and safer.
Could you put up with all the airline hassles right now?
