Astringents, like alcohol will dry out the pores...thereby causing the pores to produce MORE OIL!! This is NOT a good cure for pimples! Hydrogen peroxide would do better than alcohol!

Here are some Home Remedies that some people have found helpful in stopping acne.

1. Put toothpaste on your pimple before you go to bed, should help reduce swelling overnight. Make sure it is the paste not the gel. Any brand should do.

2. Dab egg white on your pimple and leave on for at least 20 minutes preferably overnight, this is supposed to "Suck Out" the "Nasty Stuff".

3. Wash your face twice a day in warm salty water. This should leave your face oil free without aggravating the acne like soap.

4. Ice down the acne before bed, by morning it should be noticeably better. Works best on larger pimples that have not yet formed a head. Because it is a method of reducing the swelling and helping the acne "re-absorb" it should prevent scarring.

5. First wash face and then dab acne with cotton balls soaked in vinegar.

6. Place Strawberry leaves on the acne, the alkalinity helps to reduce the swelling.

This may be a bit too extreme for pimples, and could make them worse. Try mixing a bit of purified water, a drop of tea tree oil, and some baking soda into a paste and dotting it onto the pimples. Allow it to dry, and then wash it off. Don't do it too often, as overdrying can cause more skin problems. You could always try buying some witch hazel and putting it on cotton balls, and using it as an astrigent after washing. For best results, use "proven" OTC or prescription acne washes, or a mild (dermatologist recommended) soap and warm water. Remember, overwashing is sometimes worse than not washing enough. Never take Accutane though, that stuff is horrid.

STOP! Absolute worst thing you can do for zits is rubbing alchohol. All it duz is dry out your skin which in turn forces your skin to produce more oil to replace what you have stripped away causing even more zits, its a no win thing. Try a soap that duznt dry out your skin, and wash your face twice a day. Dont put anything on them, dont pop them, even tho I know its hard not to, put a hot compress on the zit, it will help to bring it to the surface quicker, and you will be able to get rid of it sooner.

I wouldn't use it. Yes, it does dry out the skin but it's also very irritating and you could end up with a problem lots worse than pimples. The best way to get rid of pimples is to wash your face no more than twice a day with a good cleanser (Neutrogena makes good ones for oily and acne-prone skin). Washing more than twice a day actually stimulates the oil glands. The best gels and lotions for pimples are available by prescripion only. I like Differen to clear up pimples.

One way to effectively treat acne is to keep face clean from oils, make-up and dirt. Washing the face a couple of times a day helps but for added cleanliness try a cotton ball with rubbing alcohol before bed. Not only does alcohol help dry the skin of oil but it also kills bacteria-causing germs. And since bacteria is at the heart of acne and blemishes it's important to keep skin free of it's dangers.

Using alcohol more frequently than once daily can cause skin to peel or become irritated. Alcohol is especially helpful when the effects of a pimple are first being felt. Often, the skin around the area of a pimple-to-be can begin to sting or feel sore when rubbed. Upon first noticing this condition douse the area (and only this area) with alcohol three times daily.

Those who have really oily skin have particular complexion problems which often result in blackheads. Oatmeal is one way to treat oily skin and it's inexpensive. Oatmeal is very dry and absorbs oil from the skin. Make a thick paste from oatmeal and water then apply to the face in the morning and evening. Allow the paste to stay on face for 10 to 20 minutes before rinsing with cool water.

Another effective facial mask for those with oily skin is made from honey and apples. After grating the apple into a fine pulp mix in four tablespoons of honey and apply to face for ten minutes. Or beat an egg white until stiff and add a few drops of witch hazel and a few drops of lemon juice. Spread the mixture over the face and leave for fifteen minutes. Rinse well with barely warm water.

Tomatoes work wonders for oily skin as well. After mashing a ripe tomato drain the juice on paper towels for a few minutes. Now take the tomato pieces and pat them onto the face, while lying back, and leave for fifteen to twenty minutes. Rinse with warm water. Do this treatment once daily, preferably in the morning.

Try to keep from picking at pimples. Dirt under the fingernails gets into the pimple to infect it further. If your current medication isn't working too well try some of these remedies to see if they'll help. If you're trying old-fashioned remedies and they don't work ask your physician about prescription medications for relief.

Alchohol just dries the skin out, therefor dries the zit.It takes about a week of continuous use to help. Its ok if you have tendencies for oily skin, but other wise I'd go to Wal-Mart or a department store and shop around for some products specalized for your skin type to prevent over-drying and peeling.

This will sound crazy but bacon on a zit is the best thing I've seen the fat part on the zit under a bandaid. draws it up and clears up faster. See my skin 34 no scars and looks good right? Alcohol will tear it up. I've heard a lot of good news about proactive too.

pimple + rubbing alcohol= dry skin
dry skin= increased oil production by the pores
more oil= more pimples

try something that's not so harsh- skip the acne aisle and get some Purpose face wash from Target. Also, clay masks are great for clogged pores and won't dry your skin out.

^_^

Don't use rubbing alcohol on your skin. It will make it very dry. There are better over the counter remedies for zits! Wal-mart has a great inexpensive section... Hope this helps
