You can use a FIREWALL, one free one is available through ZoneAlarm
Zone Alarm is a terrific firewall program that may help prevent popups and other problems on your computer.

But you also want to uninstall and clean up these pesky programs. I recommend several Anti-spyware programs. Visit http://www.download.com to get the free versions.
Ad-aware - a great software from lavasoft, available through download.com - their FREE version works great.
SpyBot Search & Destroy - this is an awesome package - go for it.
Make sure that you have your anti-virus program running and updated. Check it's status regularly.
It takes time and effort to fix and avoid these threats. Be sure to be dilligent about reporting SPAM and unsolicited e-mail.
Good luck

If you are getting messages to install a adware program, don't accept it or do it, it might be a virus that is fake and it's trying to install something else.
Make sure to have a Firewall installed soon and some of these programs below. NEVER, accept anything else that you don't know what it is.
This is what I do to protect my computer:
> Scan your computer for spyware/adware using a FREE software from Microsoft called Windows Defender: http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx
> You can download a FREE antivirus software:
http://www.grisoft.com/doc/Programs/lng/us/tpl/tpl01
> You can buy Webroot Spy Sweeper here, it's very nice, safe and very up-to-date:
http://www.webroot.com/land/freescan-3000.php?rc=4929&ac=5190853
> MSN Toolbar, includes Pop-up blocker, Phishing filter - FREE:
http://toolbar.live.com/?mkt=en-us
>Scan your computer for spyware/adware:
http://www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/?ref=google_adw
>Scan your computer for virus/trojans:
http://www.trendmicro.com/hc_intro/default.asp
> Use Windows Update to make sure you have the latest security updates: http://www.windowsupdate.com
> You can download the latest version of Internet Explorer, it's the new version, fast, clean and secure:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.mspx?mg_ID=10010
Good luck and I hope these solutions solve your problem, if you need more extra help, contact me :)

i have 3 words for you :
spybot, adaware, spy sweeper
all of those programs are free (or at least have a free trial version that will remove all the spyware).
don't even think about using any other anty-spyware software (well, except maybe Microsoft Anty spyware and ZoneAlarm antispyware if they are allready there) cause u might get a spyware with the anty-spyware...

hi, spyware is a disgusting and infamous virus. perhaps you can try Norton or Mcafee to remove the virus, but you should pay for the software.
i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can disable all virus to run, because the virus can only run on IE.
besides, firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.
firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.
download firefox for free:

Best Wishes && Good Luck!

AdAware is free and works great!
I use it with Yahoo's spy removal tool, they both get what the other misses. Both very effective and free!
