you cant. it is really impolite to say that you would like money. however, if you could tell that to a good friend and ask her to spread it around quietly, that would be alright.

Gifts at all are never mentioned on the invite. And you can't dictate what people give you as a gift. It's a gift, they can give you what they want. If asked, you can express a preference for cash, but you can't make people do it. And look at it this way, you can always Ebay the stuff you don't like after the wedding.

You can't do that. It's always rude. The only way you can spread the word is to have your parents subtly tell people that it is what you prefer. The other thing you can do is don't register anywhere and then hopefully people won't know what to get you so you will get money, however, older people usually insist on getting a gift. Hopefully they will include the reciept and you can return it for the money, but I wouldn't count on that.

unfortunately there is no polite way of asking for cash... but this may help you.. my aunty (who works in a major retail store) told me this happened once.. absolutely tacky, but it worked! The couple registered a whole lot of stuff with the store's gift registry service. All top-of-the-range goods. Everyone bought what they wanted from the list and the bride returned ALL of it after the honeymoon and got credit notes for it all. I think that is absolutely disgraceful, but that was obviously how they got around a similar problem to yours!

There is NO polite way to do that.

It is considered GREED.

I personally give gift cards to people to use as they desire.

You don't mention any gifts on the invitations...it's extremely tacky.
