When I put black eyeliner (the pencil kind) on my top eye lid, it smudges down below my eye after a while. It also happens when I put it on the bottom part of my eye. Why does this happen? And how can I prevent it from happening? Am I using the wrong eyeliner tool?

My eyeliner has always done this, even when I invested in the really expensive waterproof kind. I have recently found something that I LOVE - it is from Merle Norman, which is not a brand I have normally used but a friend clued me in. It is a cream eyeliner in a little pot that you put on with a thin brush. I am a total clutz at makeup, but it only took me a few times to get used to it and now it is so much easier to use than a pencil. And, it doesn't go anywhere. I also use waterproof mascara with it as well - I like Lancome Hypnose. For the first time ever, I don't get racoon eyes.

Good luck!

I had the same problem when I was using pencil eyeliners (and having oily skin didn't help either!)

I've switched over to using a dark shadow with a slanted eyeliner brush instead. Dip the tip of the brush in a bit of water to dampen it, and then use that brush to pick up the eyeshadow and apply to your eyes - I've been using this method for a few years and my eyeliner (on both upper and lower lid) has stayed smudge free all day (and night) long.

Hope that helps!

avon glimmersticks self sharpening eyeliner has worked the best for me. I usually have that problem but not since i have used this. It happens becuae alot of the eye makeup has certain ingrediants that make them more prone to smudging. Opt for a waterproof liner, they seem to work much better.

Try using a primer on your lids and then after you put your liner on use a bit of powder to keep it from smudging

Using a more expensive brand may halp but also, try lining the top and bottom with powder eyeshadow afterwards ...skin color or close to it ...it will keep it from running or smudging .
