haven't you seen braveheart? I personally love Scotland and it's habitants. (I'm English) although they do have a rude name for us.

Yes there's a rivalry. It's the same as the rivalry between football teams, between neighbouring towns and between the English and the Germans.
The truth is that there are no English and no Scots. Both have a mixed ancestry. The majority of people living in England have a Scottish great-grandparent, and the majority of people living in Scotland have an English great-grandparent. There are more first, second or third generation Scots living in London than there are in Scotland.
That well known Englishman Tony Blair was born in Edinburgh. Most of his cabinet are Scots. The Liberal Democrat party is run by a Scot, who replaced another Scot. I'm not sure about David Cameron, but the name has a distinctly Scottish ring to it.
Our Queen, God Bless her (Elizabeth the second of England, and first of Scotland) is only a distant descendant of the Stuart dynasty, but her mother was a Scot.
So next time you feel like dressing up in a plaid skirt, painting yourself blue and charging around crying "fae Scotland", remember that your mother was born in Doncaster and your grandfather was Lithuanian.

I am a Scot born in Glasgow and I am writing to tell you
that this is NOT the first time that this subject is asked.
Why? There is absolutely no problem, the Scots will open
the door of their house and let you in, feed you and let you
stay the night if you have no place to rest. This is not
only on Hogmanay! Now, please all of you young guys,
forget Mel Gibson and Braveheart because that is a
typical Hollywood movie and is produced strictly for
box-office reasons - in Hollywood it is make or break.
Obviously there is truth in the movie, but the bloody
scenes and stories have been highly exagerated. Better
read History books, or better still, get the "The Scotsman"
newspaper on your PC and go to "Heritage" page. It is
free and you will find out about Scottish/English History
in truthful, easy reading. I have no axe to grind as I like
the English just as much as the Scots, but we must not
allow ourselves to be carried away by a Hollywood
Production, which seems to have more punch than
the History Books which, admitedly are boring. However
I have given you an easy and interesting choice and,
guess what, many will be surprised and enlightened
by the truth, and a lot wiser. Cheers to all English and
Scots alike!

I think the rivalry between the two is just stupid - it is all this history cr*p which I think people should just bloody forget about. There are more important things in life than petty bloody rivalry that was hundreds of years ago.
Same sh*t with the Irish - they hate the English. Again - get over it, it wasn't my fault personally and it was a loooong time ago.
I could go on but I won't. Basically, this rivalry is completely stupid and we should grow up and just all bloody get on. I don't care where you are from as long as you don't hurt me physically/mentally/verbally etc. I am my own person regardless of where I am from and I will treat you the same.
So there.

Well the english have been our natural enemies for well over a millenium. I am extremely anti english as are most of the people i know. I dont really care what they think of us. If we had a choice who our neighbours were im sure we wouldnt pick them Al Queda would be preferable. By the way if it exists in some scots bloke mind then surely that backs me up.

England invaded Scotland a bunch of times, mkilling and raping. The Scots, under William Wallace, did the English the same way. So it goes.

After 800 years of oppression do you just forget?
Its in our spirit culture and songs to hate the English for what they did. We will never let them forget.
Apart from that theyre horrible rude people who seem driven by money and violence not happiness.
Their jingoistic tendencies were highly visible during the world cup.
The Scots love the rest of the world but we just hate the English.
The English hate everyone, and tolerate a few countries, we're just included with the rest .

No, personally i love the porridge munching skirt wearing sweaties as much as the next Englishman...Only kidding, it is probably the most beautiful country i have ever been to and the people are just fantastic. And what is it about the Scottish female voice that drives me nuts? It is one of the sexiest accents you will ever hear. The men don't sound the same though :))
