first off, i believe that you do have to be 18 to be an associate with walmart. also, there are many things you can do other than cashiering. but i will say that cashiering is the basis for almost everything that goes on in the store. and as far as good or bad work environment, i would say you should look for a sam's club as opposed to a walmart. for one thing they pay their employees much better than walmart, you receive benefits more quickly, and you can get profit sharing if you work there long enough (minimum of only 5 months). for instance at my club this past march i received a bonus of over $1500 because i worked more than an average of 28 hours a week. Less than 28 got a little over $750.

From what my son tells me, an ex-Wal-Mart employee(he quit), it is a bad work enviroment. The upper level management treat the workers bad, and treat the vendors, the ones that bring the product to the stores, the same way. When you begin to progress through the pay scales towards top pay, it is made really difficult for you to continue working there. There is an extremely high turn over rate among the employees. They(Wal-Mart) are late in giving raises, bonuses, and provide little incentive to remain with the company. Their upper level managers get huge bonuses, $100,000 for a top performing store manager. My son was a second level manager when he left. His words were...."Everyone that works there is treated like dirt".
....I would look elsewhere for employment.

They have stock crew in all departments. They have maintenance. They have cart pullers. They have door greeters. There are several positions that don't require you to run a cash register. I used to work there as a sales associate. My sister in law works there, and last I knew she was working unloading trucks. I do believe you have to be 18 though. Good luck.

Don't you think it would be best to go to the Wal-mart employment office to find out what jobs would be available to someone of your age? The answers you would get on-line here would be prejudiced by other peoples personal experience.

A lot of Walmart's younger employees seem to be "cart pushers" (gather the carts left in the parking lot and bring them into the store).

Go see the store manager of your local Wal-Mart and they can give you all the 'skinny' on their job openings.

You have to be 18 to work there period. And yes they have other people who walk around and help customers find things.
