When products come into this country from overseas, they usually are handled by a customs broker.
What a customs broker does, he fills out all the necessary paperwork to record the entry of the goods. This is to insure that the proper customs fees are paid for the import of the goods. The work is usually done in his office based upon the paperword submitted with the shipment of goods. Occassionally the broker will take a trip to dockside or warehouse where the goods are being kept, pending customs clearance to inspect the goods and insure that they are what the paperwork claims that they are.
