2788 miles (4487 km), as the crow flies.

2788 miles to the nearest mile on the earth surface (mean sea level)

Given that the plane will be travelling at an altitude of around 33,000 ft. (6.25 miles) above the earths surface this will increase the distance travelled by.

(((3.142 X 3,963.189+6.25 mile)2)-((3.142 X 3,963.189 mile)2)/360)*(24900/2788)

This will give you an approximate value for the distance between Gatwick airport and Gambia.

The calculation is actually more complicated than that due to the fact the palan decreases and increases altitude on take of and landing.

Some one else can work that out. I'm going the pub!

If I was you I'd stick with 2788 miles or nearly 3000 and go the pub!

I've been the pub and come back

The up and down bit can roughly be worked out using the the hipopotomus theory by prythagorus.

the squared dubbywotsit thing you learnt at school.

I hope this helps.

its a 6 hour flight, bear in mind, you have to pay 200 dalasi which I think is £5.00 to get into the country in their airport.

Be careful there, if you are black they will say welcome home, and try and bleed you dry by selling pieces of scrap to you, they will call you brother or sister and think that because you are from a wealthier country you owe them something.

If you are white they will rip you off.... blatantly

If you are going as a couple, beware as the locals like to latch on to you and eat with you at the restuarant!

If you are going, be vigilant
