Songs that I know my loved one enjoyed, especially those that we enjoyed together.

I lost my ex-husband (the father of my son) to drugs and alcohol, and a song that I played to grieve for his loss just reminded me of him in how it expresses the difficulty of finding faith in a world where many of us seem to only experience suffering.

"Burning Down" by Kings X:

where are you tonight
i don't seem to know you
no i'm not all right
where are you tonight
and my heart is nearly gone
there's not much left to offer
if i could somehow know
i could stop the burning down

where are you tonight
are you even really out there
i won't put up a fight
where are you tonight
and the world keeps spinning round
a vicious cycle turning
some of them know love
some of us know the burning down

and "Angel" by Sarah McLachlan
also expresses the pain and how some turn to addictions as a way to try to escape it; besides the fact that her voice is so pure - she brings tears to my eyes on many of her songs.

Spend all your time waiting
for that second chance
for a break that would make it okay
there's always one reason
to feel not good enough
and it's hard at the end of the day
I need some distraction
oh beautiful release
memory seeps from my veins
let me be empty
and weightless and maybe
I'll find some peace tonight

in the arms of an angel
fly away from here
from this dark cold hotel room
and the endlessness that you fear
you are pulled from the wreckage
of your silent reverie
you're in the arms of the angel
may you find some comfort there

so tired of the straight line
and everywhere you turn
there's vultures and thieves at your back
and the storm keeps on twisting
you keep on building the lie
that you make up for all that you lack
it don't make no difference
escaping one last time
it's easier to believe in this sweet madness oh
this glorious sadness that brings me to my knees

in the arms of an angel
fly away from here
from this dark cold hotel room
and the endlessness that you fear
you are pulled from the wreckage
of your silent reverie
you're in the arms of the angel
may you find some comfort there
you're in the arms of the angel
may you find some comfort here

OR

Tears In Heaven

Would you know my name
If I saw you in heaven?
Would it be the same
If I saw you in heaven?

I must be strong
And carry on,
'Cause I know I don't belong
Here in heaven.

Would you hold my hand
If I saw you in heaven?
Would you help me stand
If I saw you in heaven?

I'll find my way
Through night and day,
'Cause I know I just can't stay
Here in heaven.

Time can bring you down,
Time can bend your knees.
Time can break your heart,
Have you begging please, begging please.

Beyond the door,
There's peace I'm sure,
And I know there'll be no more
Tears in heaven.

Would you know my name
If I saw you in heaven?
Would it be the same
If I saw you in heaven?

I must be strong
And carry on,
'Cause I know I don't belong
Here in heaven.

For me it would actually depend on who or what I'm grieving over. If it's a person that I was particularly close to it would be "Wind Beneath My Wings". If it was the loss of a special relationship, such a friendship, it would be any melancholy instrumental music. The theme song from "Out of Africa" comes to mind. Sitting quietly and listening to it over and over again helps me to grieve and clear my system from the hurt of my loss.

Any song that reminds you of that person. It's completely personal because of the person you are and the person you are grieving and the relationship you had. I wish you well with your grieving.

it depends on what you're grieving about...

if it's a relationship that you didnt want to end, but did:
"Broken Hearted" by Eighteen Visions (cd: Eighteen Visions)
"Seize The Day" by Avenged Sevenfold (cd: City Of Evil)
or pretty much anything by The Cure

if it's a death:
"I Won't See You Tonight" by Avenged Sevenfold (cd: Waking The Fallen)
"Meet You There" by Simple Plan (cd: No Pads, No Helmets... Just Balls)
"Blue And Yellow" by The Used (cd: Maybe Memories)
"Hard To Say" by The Used (cd: In Love And Death)

if it's a different situation, let me know. i probably know a song to fit it. (i live for music.)
