Peroxide- I am a nurse and I have used this each and evertime. I have found it works for betadine too. Just take the garment and hold it over the sink. Take a turkey baster or a syringe and soak the soiled area. It will turn white first- it is just acting on the blood. You may have to rub at the stain a little bit and keep reapplying. Then, rinse under cold water and wash.
If you get blood in your clothes and can't do this trick right away, at least soak the clothing in cold water until you can get to it.

Try putting a good-sized dab of dishwasher soap on the blood stain and let it sit overnight before washing. Wash the shirt in cold water with a cold rinse, and pull it out of the washer and look at it before you put it in the dryer. If that didn't do the trick, try pre-treating it with Shout or Spray N' Wash, let it sit, and wash it again in cold water. The key is you don't want the shirt to get warm or hot -- if it does, the stain will set and you'll never get it out. Good luck!

Having worked at a trauma hospital years ago, I was given a solution for the same problem and it has worked for me. It has helped me save many shirts I myself have gotten blood on from shaving also.
As soon as you have noticed the blood, soak the affected area/s in hydrogen peroxide, lightly scrubbing in circles as it is getting soaked. Rinse with cold water...NOT HOT as the hot water will cause the blood to set in. Wash the shirt in cold water as normal. Normally the blood will have come out before you wash the shirt.

DO NOT GET IT WET OR PUT SHOUT ON IT!!!!!!! This is an old trick that has been handed down through our family. Put hydrogen peroxside on it. When you pour it on and you see that white foamy stuff come up over the dried blood, then you know that its working. Let it sit for 5 min and then put it in the washer.
I have tried it tons of times and it works great.

soak in COLD salt water. Do not use hot water as there are several proteins in blood that are very temperature sensative and will set themselves nicely in a cotton shirt.

Hmmm..... ok , go to your local police station. Sometimes they have a little gift shop counter where they sell supplies and such that you can't find anywhere else , ya know - cops / blood , that kinda idea. Make sure you tell them you need something for "getting bloodstains out of a shirt", i'm sure they can help.
