There is no specific dress code these days in theaters really. And so they are not so tight about what you where.
There is obviously a certain amount of etiquette involved and presentation. For example Men should not wear sandals or flip flops. But more conventional shoes.
I would say that most theaters would prefer 'smart casual'. In my opinion it is better to dress up slightly to make the evening more special for yourself. Attending a London musical after all is quite something.

T- shirts, socks, underwear, shorts, shoes/sneakers, baseball cap and an umbrella. The weather in London can get pretty wet, so bring some pants and a long sleeve shirt too. And a coat!

Depends if its a semi-casual affair or something really upper class, in the latter I would wear a black suit and bow tie (no cumberbunds since we don't have those in England) if its pretty casual, a clean white shirt and tie with matching trousers (pants) will do.
