I have the volume control on the computer turned all the way up, but my speakers don't have external volume control. I can barely hear any sound from the computer. Is there a piece of software that can "amplify" the sound coming from the line out port so that my speakers will be loud enough?

Thanks very much.

maybe they are loud enough, but you broke your ears by listening to too loud music.

I read through the answers and they all have part of it. If you have a set of headphones, try plugging them in. If the volume is loud, then the problem is the speakers. If the sound still is low, then there is something else. Things to check. Make sure that the speakers/earphones are plugged in secure. Some extension headphone cords can wear out fast and give static. I have purchased both cheap, and good speakers. Even some from a dollar store are good. But some are just that... cheap. You have to decide that. All earphones from a dollar store are sufficient for this test at very low cost. You can visit a computer store, office supply store or department store to get a good speakers for as little as $15-25. On the back of computers, either a built-in sound port, or a sound card, there are these ports. Microphone, Line-In, powered, and non-powered speakers. The green one is always the main one if colour coded. There are many ways to adjust volume control. Use windows help if needed, but the basic way is to right-click on the volume icon and open audio properties,or the other one. And adjust the sliders. Hope this helps.

If you've gone to Start Menu -> Programs -> Accessories -> Entertainment -> Volume Control and put everything on max, and its still not working then I would recommend getting a new set of speakers. However, it's possible that your speakers are not plugged into the wall and getting power. If that is the case (in some older model speakers) then you will not get a very strong signal due to it being powered by the computer itself.

First off, plug it into the wall if it's not.
Secondly, check out those settings just in case.
Thirdly, do you have another program such as the manufacturer's program on your computer that is also controlling your sound. If you do, it's possible this will override the settings Windows currently has.

Hope this helps,
Jason

p.s. Lemme know if it does - or if you need any other assistance with this issue.

The power delivered by the speaker output is enough for headphones or small speakers....consider buying some amplified speakers.

Check also your sound properties (double click on the small speaker at the bottom rights of the star bar) verify all volumes are at their maximum.

There are many speaker control locations and at one of your locations the sound is turned down too low...
1.Keyboard---maximize
2.computer-- right click on the speaker in the lower right hand corner and go to both listed sites and maximize sound and left click and maximize sound..
3. speakers-external--duh turn them up
4. speakers-internal with monitor--click monitor menu and maximize volume....
these are fairly simple steps and should blow you away with sound even from small speakers...
