These trees are driving me crazy! I have little trees sprouting up all over the place. I have three large trees, and I guess they're throwing spores all over the place. I mow or cut the little ones down, but then little trees start up again from the cut areas. What can I do, short of have the large ones destroyed?!

Unfortunately, until you get rid of the big parent trees, you will have to live with the constant work of cutting the sprouts.

Good luck with your problem.

You will need to pull up the volenteer maples-- cutting them off does nothing. I had a neighbor with large mature maples-- I took a few volenteers and put them where I wanted-- since they grow fast, they were providing shade fairly soon--However, they also sent seeds in the air in the spring (see the heliocopters Momma!!)
If the large maples are near your sewer lines-- it would be good to remove them. If you have a fireplace you can burn the wood-- but make sure it drys out for a year-- like don't use it this winter.
You will have enough time to search for replacement trees while you are pulling up the "babies"-- sorry there really isn't any other way.
good luck
