Once again, I plead for thoughful, coherent answers from both sides (and, yes, I know that I sometimes don't offer that kind of answer).

In the Liberal world outlook, all of our problems are due to greedy rich people who exploit the system to their own selfish ambitions. To make things "fair" they think that the wealth should be reapportioned. Taxes should be favor the poor. Education, health and job opportunities should favor the poor. We should reward those who have failed in life, and penalize those who have been successful. (In the Liberal world view, the "successful" either cheated of had some privileges that made them successful).

Fair to the liberals means the same opportunities that the rich and powerful have. It means the right to worship where we want not have it forced on us by the religious fundamentalist right. For women to be able to make the decisions about there bodies that republicans want to deny them. To not be accused of being unpatriotic when we exercise our constitutional right to disagree with our government and stand up for what we believe.

"Fair" is a scary term when used by the left. They use it most often in terms of "fair trade," which on its face sounds virtuous. However, I am of the opinion that "fair trade" is to "free trade" what "fair speech" is to "free speech."

Scarier still, the left actually TRIED to promote "fair speech" a number of years ago. There was legislation afoot to force "conservative" talk show hosts to show "both sides" and provide "equal time." Fortunately, those of us who love freedom called them on their duplicity.

"Fairness," in the mind of the leftist, seems to aim at "equality," but of an insidious kind, the kind that seeks to penalize those with talent and ambition, and to reward mediocrity and laziness. Let us abandon such silly notions.

Love, Jack.

In general, it's a code word for the phrase "to make everybody equally miserable."

They also use it interchangeably with the word "justice"...which actually means something completely different than the word "fair."

Fairness is subjective; Justice is objective.

When they refer to "fair", they mean everyone gets the same outcome, regardless of how hard they work, how competent they are, or what assets they bring to the table.

Most people like the word 'fair'. If you use it enough they might like you.

I would hope they mean "the truth." I would think conservatives want the same thing as well.
