I've learned to like animé more than I use to.
I don't think it is the most 'original' thing to draw because yeah, most of the characters do have similarities. I also feel this way about 'US style' cartoons which have exaggerated features and such. I've seen the same type of characters drawn by different people.
When you draw realisticly, you are taking your idea directly from the source and are interpreting everything yourself (usually). However, a lot of kids see people drawn a certain way and follow that design too.
Giving those who like drawing animé the benefit of the doubt... we'll say that they care about originality but are big fans of animé and like the ideas behind it so this is how they choose to express themselves.
You know what I heard someone say once?
Goths think they are dressing in black because they want to be different but really they all look the same, but this is usually not the case and they are missing the point. Most never claim to have the 'punk attitude' of "Don't conform!" The dark think is just what they are really into.
There is nothing wrong with liking animé and you shouldn't critise your friends for likeing to draw it. They may have the most fun drawing in that style and displaying their characters' emotions in that way.
No, it isn't truely original. It sure is popular. Not original. Most things in life aren't original ideas. It is good to come up with new things, but you can't say it is bad when someone comes up with an idea that a lot of people like.
Another note... I've seen some really good artists that draw animé! And it gives them a lot of practice..so maybe i the future they will come up with something totaly original and it'll be great. ;)

I don't think anime is stupid, but I do think that it is overrated, yes I do....very much so. I have seen some people that were just entirely too obsessed with Anime, and usually they also had extensive teddy bear collections and stuff like that. I think those people need to get out of the house and go take a walk in the woods and get some fresh air.

I like anime a lot, but I don't consider myself an otaku, even though I am well versed in anime knowledge. But you know what? I also watch other things on tv, like night time dramas such as House, Bones, 24, and educational tv as well, mostly dealing with ancient civilizations. I don't really understand, and can only guess why people like you, and the people that answered your question think you have the right to judge people based on their hobbies. I bet you have something you are passionate about, don't you? And I doubt you would appreciate being judged simply because you like that ONE thing. Maybe you've never heard of "judge not lest ye be judged." If you don't like anime, then don't watch it. You're not hurting anyone's feelings if you don't. And don't come into this category and try to shove your OPINIONS down our throats. We don't do that to you.

uh no. I don't believe anime is stupid. It's different, not stupid. Nothing is ever stupid, just different. You may not agree with the anime that your friends watch, but it doesn't mean that all the anime is the same. I believe if you sat down and sampled some different types of anime, I believe that you might find one you would like.

That really depends on what types of Anime you have been exposed to.
Most of the crap of Cartoon Network is just that - crap.
Really good Anime are the ones that stand out as classics:
Robotech
Gatchaman (or G-Force, or Battle of the Planets)
Martian Successor Nadesico
Ghost in the Shell
Akira
Ninja Scroll
Vampire Hunter D
Ronin Warriors
Dominion: Tank Police
and many others like them are the good ones. Also, don't rush to judgement just because YOU don't understand it.

You only think it’s stupid because you don’t understand it. I was once like you, I use to hate it all until one day I lost the remote and was stuck watching it and in the end I decided it was not so bad and now I love anime and hopefully one day you will like it to.

I greatly enjoy anime and in my opinion, it has much more depth and meaning than American cartoons, in addition to being superior artistically.
It is culturally different than your everyday Saturday morning cartoons. While some anime is just for entertainment, some of it has philosophical meaning and makes the viewer ponder the ideas presented.
It is ignorant to say you don't like something just because you don't understand it (or haven't given it a fair chance).

I think you are stupid because you can't just leave us alone and accept that some people will like things that you don't and have to ask idiotic questions like this.
So, No, I do not agree that anime is stupid. I think you missed the point a long time ago.

Yes I agree.. It is hard for my eyes to see it and the dialogue blows.. As a matter fact I was reading today how they have to ban american cartoons from certain time in China because Anime is doing really bad in the country.. I guess a whole Country agree with you...
