I wouldn't recommend having your daughter try anything, and I say that from experience. I tried the spicy food, the greasy food, and the tropical fruit juices. And all I got was really bad diarrhea. After three pregnancies the only thing that seemed to help a little was having the doctor strip my membranes. But in the end I still had 3 inductions. Even sex and walking didn't help any, or any of the herbs I tried. Good luck though!

Patience. All babies DO come out.

She should go get a massage. This will help take away her aches and pains, relax her and balance her body. If her body is in balance, labor will be easier.

Also, consider a chiropractic adjustment to balance her body.

Walk. This will help to bring the baby down into her pelvis and put more pressue on her cervix.

She can take evening primrose oil to help ripen her cervix. This will NOT induce labor but could help get her body ready. She can take 2 capsules before bed and insert them up near her cervix. If she wants, she can puncture them with a pin and squeeze the oil out and rub it into her cervix.

Have lots of sex. The semen will help to ripen her cervix. (The prostaglandin gel they use in the hospital if you're induced contains pig sperm!!!) If she has an orgasm, that can bring on contractions.

She should NOT obsess about getting herself to go into labor. She'll wear herself out and stress herself out. If her body and her baby are not ready yet, NOTHING she tries will work. Honestly, she should relax and try to enjoy the last kicks and wiggles and go pamper herself with a haircut or manicure because soon she won't have time for those things.

DO NOT use castor oil. This will make her run to the bathroom and very uncomfortable. And it may not start labor so the discomfort could be for nothing! AND if it makes her run to the bathroom, it could do the same to baby, causing him to have his first BM in the womb which can be dangerous if aspirated.

DO NOT use blue or black cohosh unless she is under the care of a midwife or doctor who is very experienced with this induction method. There are also some people who should not use cohosh.

since she is only 3 days past her estimated due date, she isnt really post term, doctors will not induce labor until she is between 7 and 14 days past her due date.

here are some things that may help.

first, she needs to relax, if shes stressing over it, her labor hormone wont kick in.

have her take a nice long warm bath with some relaxing scented bubbles or salts.

she can try having lots of sex.

nipple stimulation helps kick start the labor as well.

eating spicey foods sometimes helps.

avoid castor oil, it travels to the baby as well usually resulting in merconium in the water sac.

long walks, go to walmart or a mall and walk for a miumum of 2 straight hours, take a break and repeat.

sometimes a car ride on a bumpy road will help as well.

most importantly, RELAX the baby will arrive only when he/she is ready, not before.

Congratulations!

Well I did the Castor Oil for baby #2, it did nothing, but I also used it for baby #3 when my contractions was good and it helped break my water. Some women have a hard time getting labor started and some dont, I know how she feels , 7 yrs ago today my labor started with baby #3 and it lasted 72 hours and I did all my labor at home , all my kids just refused to come out LOL.
Good luck to your daughter and congradulatons to all of you.

Walking supposedly helps, but just remind her of the sleep deprevation, sore nipples from breast feeding, crying, and changing poopy diapers that she should expect when the baby comes. This might help her to put up with pregnancy a little longer. Just don't let the doctor talk her into inducing. I'm sure she'll appreciate natural childbirth.

The list of try this and try that is endless. Tell her to just relax. The baby will come when it is ready. If she goes much further, 3 days is really not late, she can ask her OB about inducing labor. I was two weeks late with my first before the doctor decided to induce.

Could be her doctor set her due date based on first day of missed period and not the actual date she got pregnant and she is normal. Happened to me with my first pregnancy.
Baby will come when it is ready to come, induction and interventions will only increase her chances of needing a section. had that happen to me with my 4th child. I had a ruptured uterus. Do not do the castor oil etc.. unless you live down the block from an ER

Castor Oil will cause diarehha which will contract the uterus as well as may start contractions, but tastes disgusting, evening primrose capsules inserted into the vagina, right before bed, or remain laying, blue cohosh, black cohosh placed in a shot of orange juice or under the tongue, rasberry leaves cause contractions, lots of sex as semen works softening and dialating cervix, as well as orgasim can cause contractions, lots of walking and for some reason I did jumping jacks (I think cause it made my other kids laugh). Good Luck

a nurse at my hospital told me to try having sex , then propping up my butt with pillows then eat pineapple with butt still under the pillows. (she said it works every time..if baby is ready). orgasms are supposed to help too, being a contraction itself. along. or you can try long walks and i heard Castro oil. i am 40 wks as well and trying the pineapple today and Castro oil tomorrow. good luck and best wishes with the new bundle of joy.

Even though she is past her due date, doesn't mean the baby is ready to come yet.

She can try sex, walking, eating fresh pineapple and all the other things they say to try, but if her body is not ready, she has to be patient.
