Learning to read tarot cards takes time, but it can be fascinating and very rewarding.

You do NOT have to be psychic, but you do have to be sensitive to others and to use your intuition - something that is kinda frowned upon in all sorts of places.

Some good places to start are
"The Mythic Tarot Workbook" by Juliet Sharman Burke (Rider Press ~isbn 0 7126 1473-7)

"Fortune Telling By Tarot Cards" by Sasha Fenton (The Aquarian Press ~ book: isbn 0 85030 500 4 - pack with book + Cards: isbn 0 85030 476 8)

I also find
"Tarot For Lovers" by Jocelyn Almond & Keith Seddon ( Thorsons Press ~ isbn: 0 7225 3276 8)
very useful.

Don't worry about all that stuff about not buying your own first deck. I bought my own, and it is very very accurate. What is important is that the designs on the cards speak to you in some way. So - with that in mind is it really important to chose your 1st deck yourself. Find some designs that you like. Often these will come with a dedicated book - but look at some others ( such as those listed above or by other answerers..) to give a little more depth to your studies.
And good luck.

Tarot cards are nothing to be frightened of at all, they are not easy to learn but as with most things it depends on how much effort you put in.
I think we all have some level of ability but you also don't have to be psychic in the clairvoyant term of things.
As you use your cards you will learn to develop your instincts and also learn to trust them more. If you really wanted to start I personally would recommend the Rider Waite deck as the symbology on them is clearer an easier to read, there is a lot involved in reading cards and you do need to read a lot of different books but no readers are the same and they develop their own sense of the cards over time. Books to start with, you could try Tarot, by Sacha Fenton.
Have fun, because there is nothing scary about Tarot, but be careful what you tell people because they might say they want to know everything but that doesn't mean that they actually do, so use your best judgement at all times.

I really like Beginner's Guide to Tarot by Juliet Sharman-Burke. It comes with a deck of Tarot cards. It is available thru Amazon.com.

You can also learn to read playing cards. Go to the web page below and order the books Destiny Cards and Love Cards.

go into tarot.com and in there there are a few different decks of cards you can use. The book I use is a skinny one and is called "Fortune Telling by Tarot Cards".

I started doing tarot back in 1983 when I had a knotty problem to solve and I had money to burn at the time so I went to an astrologer, a palmist, a numerologist, a hand writing expert, and a gypsy who did tarot. The gypsy did an elaborate spread, told me to sweep under the bed, and put her hand out for money. I fell for it. She told me to return. I was dumb enough at the time to return, and again she put her hand out and I paid her for nothing. I got frustrated at paying others and decided to see if I had what it takes to do my own tarot readings, and I do.
By the way, I don't think readers consider them "playing" cards.

Hi! You do need to be intuitive to use Tarot. Let me explain it.These paper cards are a tool one uses to get into contact with GOD and angels. A person's higher self channels the universal "knowing" (GOD"S intelligence and ALL knowing) and that energy is channeled through the higher self and the knowing, which has a subconscious connection with the body and chooses the cards. You don't need any book or booklet really. Just rely on how you feel about each individual card and you will program your own meaning into each.

Every reader has their own method of practice. It's encouraged that you meditate briefly before allowing yourself to channel because fear on your part can hinder a reading.Also....the cards are a tool like I said.Nothing is 100% or set in stone. We were all given free will by GOD (through unconditional LOVE) and can make choices and choose our future.

The cards indicate our possibilities if we remain contented to be stuck in our patterns of life.We are always free to change a future that isn't written in stone. Good luck!

I have went to psychics some cases, and under no circumstances have tarot card been authentic. No "card" can anticipate your destiny. You shuffle the playing cards, and they are what they are. Your ability would not shift the playing cards to compare your existence, come on now. if you're that worried about your destiny, ask God for help. i have been presented up a Christian my total existence; in spite of the undeniable fact that, I went with the aid of a time the position i become attracted to psychics, mediums... that is purely finest you into the incorrect direction, and leaves you even extra at a loss for words. clone of astrology, any card you %., that is going to relate on your existence someway. even if it would not, you're making up existence-circumstances to correlate with your playing cards. in case you %. a card, indicating soreness, exhilaration, loss...um, I adventure this stuff on a commonplace foundation besides. If I study Capricorn's each day astrology, it ought to narrate to me even if in spite of the undeniable fact that i'm an Aries. do not spoil your total existence, resting upon playing cards.

before you even attempt .. should read some .. CJJung [archetypal symbols ]
could be a beginning .. and there is so much literature on the subject ... infact too much ..
Taro is not to be tasken lightly...anyway do not pay attention to the discouraging .. answers
people who say things .like they are crap or horror stories are exaggerating ...

there are differences a fortune teller is not a Taro reader .. the differences are profound ...
if you have a sincere interest I could recommend Gerd Ziegler .. :Taro the Mirror of the soul ..it is one of the best ever books for beginners on this subject ..
best of luck ..
