Today, more than ever, people should be discussing politics. We are slowly losing our power to have a say in our political system. Corporations and hidden agendas by government officials are pretty much cutting the U.S. citizens right out of the picture. Remember when our vote counted? How many laws are changed or added each year that we don't even know about until its too late? How many raises do our "elected" officials give themselves while the rest of us fight to keep up with the cost of living? We need to talk, not fight, but talk. Religion is a subject that should be kept personal to each individual. It should be respected as something everyone has their own views on or beliefs in. Fighting or arguing over religion has got to be the most ridiculous thing we can do as human beings. It"s called a "Freedom"

I remember one time my gramma telling me, when I was a little girl. Angel when you grow up and go to parties or dinners with people you can talk about anything you want except two things, politics and religion because nobody ever agrees on those.

Yup I totally agree because these subjects may cause and lead to unnecessary conflicts between 2 or more persons that have different BUT reasonable reasons. We all like to have our voices heard and our notions and opinions accepted so we tend to heat up and fight for it instead of trying to strengthen the bonds that we have between us..........I'd say we leave those aside and talk about something else.....how about the movies ???!!!

With any topic you have to choose the time and place, if it is appropriate it should be enlightening, remember to be open minded to all topics and do not participate if you are going to be confrontational, first impressions sometimes cannot be forgotton.
Anyone that wants a peaceful life thinks before the act.

well, it depends with whom you are talking, but most of the time it's true. people tend to be overly sensitive on these subjects, especially religion. These subjects can easily create conflicts if the other person's views greatly differ.

These subjects are not bad provided the parties to the dialog are prepared to accept the differences gracefully. However such people are not many and therefore one should be cautious

No, I think they are wonderful subjects, as long as everyone keeps in mind that they are subjective opinions, and the person's within the discussion need to show mutual respect.

Religion, yes. As Edward Bloom observed "You never know who you're gonna offend."
Politics, they shouldn't be, but they're becoming as religious as religious matters themselves. Those who hate Bush will NEVER admit that he was right if we end up winning the war and the Middle East is made a good and happy place, and those who love Bush will never stop standing beside him even if he revealed himself to be a cannibal and child molester. It's just getting cah-razy. :S
