I never go, and they finally stopped asking me to.
When I was in high school I could not stand most of the people there, so why would I want to go back?

Our class has held 3 reunions--last year was the 40th. This was the one that was most fun. It seems different people showed up at each. Of course, the "mainstays" were there. The organizers; those who still live in town. Since I live 3000 miles away, it is also a good time to have the "family" reunion. Live off a brother for a week while you visit old haunts and check out how things have changed.
The first two reunions were the traditional dinner and dancing. But last year it was much less formal---sandwich buffet, dessert, coffee. No-host bar. CD of music that was top of the charts our high school years (given to each person who came).
Because there was no loud band, it was much easier to chat. Everyone was comfortable in shorts/slacks and t-shirts vs sport jackets and cocktail dresses. And it was less costly than renting a party room and a good dance band.
I booked a room at the Inn (150years old or more) where the re-union was to be held, so I didn't have to borrow or rent a car and didn't have far to go when I had enuf partying. Also the night before the reunion I had my aunt who is almost 80 and her youngest child (45) for dinner there. The day after I camped out at one of my brother's for the remainder of my visit. Everything really worked out well and I am glad I went!
Don't just say no; think about it; get in on the planning; send the committee your suggestions ( a copy of this response holds no copyright-you are welcome to use it!! LOL) stage it around something else you may be wanting to do. They can be fun if done the right way. I believe the planning for a 45th is in its seedling stage and the organizers have reserved the Inn again! Should start saving the airfare!!!

We had a graduating class of like 520 kids. I went to my ten year reunion and had a blast. It was weird seeing the jock and cheerleaders not aging well. So many folks I mistook for our old teachers. So yeah I enjoyed myself. I would say ego had a lot to do with me going, but it was also a chance to reconnect with old friends. If your experience was not that great, just don't even waste your time.
Live up to your name "Rona the Cute" and go to the 15 or 20 year reunion, and have a blast for yourself. I was looking forward to our 20 year reunion, but Hurricane Katrina put a stop to that.

I went to my tenth, and it was kind of a "nothing" event....
When it comes down to it, you stay in touch with the people you were close to or else you at least know what happened to them. Anyone else: Who really cares.... There's a point where well adjusted, mature people outgrow anything associated with high school for the most part. I think the realization that one reached that point often comes when the ten-year reunion turn out to be a big zero.

I didn't hate school. BUT I have never went to a reunion. My sister goes whenever there is one.
I think people go to these reunions to see how someone looks when they are older or to see if someone got fat. I had a lot of friends in school. But that is behind me now. I agree with you. I think they are a waste of time.

I don't do reunions of any kind, especially school ones... I'm still in touch with all the people I considered to be my friends at school so I have no need to meet the people who ignored me, took the piss or thought that they were better than me. School was a waste of my time then and I'm never going to let it waste my time again!!!!!!!!!!

I just missed my 10 year last year. I really wanted to go. But then I talked to a few people who went and they say there was poor turn-out, and as you stated, a complete waste of time and money. But deep inside I still wish I'd been able to attend.

I went to the 5 year - nothing had changed. Then I went to the 10 year, and it was lame - thank goodness they decided not to have the 15 year - now I can look forward to the 20 year.

As far as I know my class has never had a reunion, and I graduated 22 years ago. Or maybe I just didn't get invited. Thanks for proving my theory that a reunion would be a waste of time anyway.

No but it might be fun to go to a 50th reunion if you went to a small school and moved away after graduation to see who is still alive, who hooked up with who, and what they look like now. My mom did that and she had fun.
