yes i have.
i got a coffee maker to work in the officer mess buy throwing some salt and a bolt into the water tank to make the level sensor work. since it worked off the conductance of the water and our potable water was distilled.
I took a bunch of spare parts and old broken stuff and make a switch board testing device that allowed me to control the 4000 amp breakers locally for trouble shooting. It had 2 plugs on it one that went into a 115 outlet and one that went into casualty power.
I took an ammunition box, spare heating element from a water heater, cord from a broken lamp, and a switch that was laying around to make a space heater when it was winter and the heat for my shop was down. i even hooked a fan to it later. It worked great got the shop up to like 60 degrees.
I have also fixed lots of stuff with my trusty pocket knife. careful using you pocket knife on live electrical stuff though. good way to get shocked. lol

Well thanx to MacGyver I never leave home without my pocket knife and other useful things in my handbag. My friends all agree that if they ever happenon a deserted island they want my bag and me with them because I always have what they need or want.

Yes, I have used a piece of a nail in place of a blown fuse in a truck. We were way out in the middle of no where and that particular fuse was needed for the engine to start and we didn't have a spare but had some nails and a saw so presto one temporary fuse.

Yep, I fixed my screen door with duct tape. There was another time when I didnt have very much money and my cars exhaust had worn into. I took an aluminum can, cut the ends off, cut it into and took a clamp and connected the two ends together. Hey it worked until I could get it done right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This morning I made a new starter for my car out of two acorns that were laying on the ground. Then I built a mini nuclear reactor out of squirrel droppings.

Yes...I had to short out the power to get someones attention so I used a paperclip to unscrew the lightswitch pannel off. then I untied the wires and then I short them out and boom the power was dead...^_^, I have many others...but too many questions not enough time.

back in my pothead days we would make pipes and bongs out of everyday household items.
like a fishtank, some rubber hose, and a piece of a window screen.

I scratched my back with a fork once. I guess you couldn't really call it "saving the day," but my back was REALLY itchy, so it did make my day a whole lot better.
