Nothing, although the government really wants people to think that marijuana is just as bad a drug as Crack, Meth, Coke, Heroin. Yet here are Cigarettes and Alcohol which kill more people than every drug combined, something isn't adding up here if you ask me. It is okay to kill yourselves with these two things, yet you can't bust out a joint and puff away. Alcohol Prohibition didn't work in the twenties, yet our government is blind to the fact the people still use all kinds of drugs they are imported everyday from other countries, as well as being processed in labs here in our own country. Just as the moonshiners and bootleggers did there thing back then, these things are still happening today. If the U.S. were to import pot they could definitely tax the $h!t out of it just like they do everything else (gas, food, smokes, alcohol), oh yes and put an age restriction on it just like with booze and cancer sticks. If I am not mistaken most of the criminals in prisons and jails around the country are non-violent drug offenders, which would help out with some of the overcrowding that has apparently become a problem. I think it is funny when you come across someone that gives you $h!t because you smoke a little reefer, yet he does this while he is blowing cigarette smoke in your face while drinking some alcoholic beverage of somekind. Funny thing is I used to smoke and drink and drug quite heavily, but now all I do is puff some ganj every now and again I don't hurt anybody I don't do it in front of my kids. I believe this country might chill out some if more people were smoking pot every once in a while.

Nothing. I think in Canada this will happen sooner rather than later because public opinion is coming around to accept that the war on drugs has failed and certain soft drugs are not as harmful as some people would have you believe (certainly no worse than cigarettes or alcohol anyway). In the United States, there is a more fervent anti-drug movement and an almost fanatical law enforcement lobby that will likely prevent this from happening in America for the foreseeable future. Oh, and in case anyone was wondering, I have never used an illegal drug in my life, but I still support the legalization of marijuana. I believe that it comes down to an individual's right to choose, and if we have made the possession of marijuana illegal, why didn't we do the same for tobacco and alcohol? The answer is simple - many large corporations make a huge fortune selling smokes and booze, but they haven't cornered the market in soft drugs (yet).

You know.... I've tried smoking the stuff, and it made me feel lazy and apathetic, but I really think pots far less dangerous then smoking and drinking, both of which are legal. I'm a conservative, and I think it should be legalized, taxed, and controlled. The War on Drugs has certainly lossed the battle of controlling pot, and it could be well served if the tax money from the sales of pot could be used to stop drugs that just flat out kill people like meth. That's my opinion.

Cigarettes cause cancer and they need to get rid of them .
But cash flow is what that is all about ,and putting people out of work ,like they can't grow something else .
Pot or Marijuana give them a inch they take a mile .So no
they should not legalize it .

My opinion is because it can be grown anywhere and the government cannot get control of crops in a sense that they could'nt get their greedy hands on it to tax it in our "FREE COUNTRY" that our wounderful soldiers are dying for to protect us and keep us "Free "We are less free every day .No I dont think kids should have it or any other drug or alcohaol, but there was a time when alcohol was illegal too;one of the reasons we even have the sport of nascar. They built faster cars to outrun the cops when the bootleggers were running illegal whiskey.

Is there a reliable, scientific way to determine how "high" a driver is during a traffic stop? That is the logistics problem. If they could solve that, then we could tax the hell out of it like alcohol and tobacco.

Nothing. The gov. could tax the crap out of it and people would still buy it. It's legal in Holland and Dutch people are NOT stupid.

Absolutely nothing. the gov. could actually make money that way. But they aren't supposed to make drugs that make you high legal. I also doubt that the senators who voted for it would see another term and so they leave the issue alone for now.

Nothing

The alcohol lobby is the only voice against it.

It would be a tremendous business boom for America.

What do you mean by small amounts?

I'm against legalization. I've seen too many lives destroyed by pot.
