Depends what you are looking to do...
I have been to/done all of the following and they are all terrific...
my favorite way to get somewhere is road-trip so that you can see everything along the way

Golfing in Arizona in the winter is awesome.
New York City has great theatre and restaraunts.
Las Vegas is the nightlife capital of the world.
The Grand Canyon and Rocky Mountains both remind you how small you are in the greater scheme of things, and they offer great natural adventures from hiking to skiing to river rafting, etc.
You'll never see stars like you do driving through southern Utah.
Atlantic City offers beach and east coast charm, with a different take on mega-casinos that Vegas.
Maine is relaxing.
Quebec City and Montreal are like going to Europe without leaving North America.
Nova Scotia is very Maine-like, laid back and relaxing.
Alberta has the Rocky Mountains, as well as beautiful farming fields, and the largest shopping mall in the World.
The Northwest Territories offers you a chance to understadn true isolation, experience the northern lights, and in the winter the aurora borealis. Plus you can go dog-sledding (like the Eskimos or the Iditarod) and there is great camping and fishing.
Vancouver British Columbia offers a great nightlife, good restaraunts, and a beautiful seafront park.
Vancouver Island has nice beaches, tons of flowers, great fishing, and good camping, plus the north end of the island has incredible cold-water scuba-diving.
Seattle in the summer rocks -- check out seafair.
Northern California will amaze you with the redwoods.
You can relive the goldrush in Whitehorse Yukon Territory
Disneyland in California is great... be sure to go to Knotts Berry Farm too...

It depends if your into relaxing then some exotic beach would be good. But if your into site seeing then it would have to be someplace with the history your interested in. However site seeing vacations tend to be stressful and you cant wait to get back to work to relax from all the running around.
