Spyware is software that you accidentally let get into your computer. It attempts to track your activities, and may attempt to send information about you through the internet.

You can use a FIREWALL, one free one is available through ZoneAlarm
Zone Alarm is a terrific firewall program that may help prevent popups and other problems on your computer.

But you also want to uninstall and clean up these pesky programs. I recommend several Anti-spyware programs. Visit http://www.download.com to get the free versions.

Ad-aware - a great software from lavasoft, available through download.com - their FREE version works great.
SpyBot Search & Destroy - this is an awesome package - go for it.

Make sure that you have your anti-virus program running and updated. Check it's status regularly.

It takes time and effort to fix and avoid these threats. Be sure to be dilligent about reporting SPAM and unsolicited e-mail.

Good luck

how secure is your p.c
well as long as you have adequate security installed i.e 1 x anti-virus...3 x anti-spyware 1 x firewall(optional) then you should be fine
i wont baffle you with science, and start talking jibbirish, there is just a few rules to remember (1) allways update your security programs to keep up with the latest threats (2) never give away your private info, passwords, ect (3) only download from trusted sources
if you do this and just pratice safe surfing pratices then you should have no problems with spyware or viruses
answer to your question: its as secure as you make it !
good luck

Great Firefox...if i could correct you by stating that spyware is not a virus. Maybe do some research before you express your opinion.

The answer to the question is the first guy that commented...chavo.

Spyware is a general term used for software that performs certain behaviors such as advertising, collecting personal information, or changing the configuration of your computer, generally without appropriately obtaining your consent. You might have spyware or other unwanted software on your computer if:
• You see pop-up advertisements even when you're not on the Web.
• The page your Web browser first opens to (your home page) or your browser search settings have changed without your knowledge.
• You notice a new toolbar in your browser that you didn't want, and find it difficult to get rid of.
• Your computer takes longer than usual to complete certain tasks.
• You experience a sudden rise in computer crashes.

This is what I do to protect my computer:
> Scan your computer for spyware/adware using a FREE software from Microsoft called Windows Defender: http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

> You can download a FREE antivirus software:

> You can buy Webroot Spy Sweeper here, it's very nice, safe and very up-to-date:

> MSN Toolbar, includes Pop-up blocker, Phishing filter - FREE:

>Scan your computer for spyware/adware:

>Scan your computer for virus/trojans:

> Use Windows Update to make sure you have the latest security updates: http://www.windowsupdate.com

> You can download the latest version of Internet Explorer, it's the new version, fast, clean and secure:

hi, spyware is a disgusting and infamous virus. perhaps you can try Norton or Mcafee to remove the virus, but you should pay for the software.

i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can disable all virus to run, because the virus can only run on IE.

besides, firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.

firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.

download firefox for free:

spy-ware logs Ur key stokes, so if U type something into a search engine, it can take what U have typed and put it into its own search engine, too bring up adverts, web pages etc, that correspond to what U typed. it can even log passwords, not the ones that appear as a dot, or asterisk when U type, but any other, any thing U type that is not encrypted and be logged
