if their Paypal account is linked to their checking account, it can take 3-4 days to clear
if there is money in their Paypal account with eBay, the payment should be immediate
I normally give 7 days to receive payment, but require that the winning bidder notify me with method of payment within 48 hrs if not paying by Paypal

Well you have to be a LITTLE bit patient because not everybody checks their emails every day ( some people have lives away from their computers). I know because I once had to wait 7 days before I heard from the buyer. But it's not unusual to have to wait seven days.
On the other hand the buyer could be a complete idiot who has simply changed their mind. How much good feedback do they have?

My advice is to be patient, and you will find the Ebay discussion boards are very useful for a question of this type?

It is my pleasure to answer a question that our leader "Sean I.T ©" has already answered.

Yeah, what Sean says makes perfect sense.

I guess it would be wise to refuse bids from anyone with only a few positive feedbacks. Especially if your item has any real value.

But paypal should be recieved within a day. If they are paying by CHECK or other means, make sure that the check CLEARS before sending the item. Establish a policy and state this in your shipping instructions. Look at some of the items sold by top SELLERS.

If youre talking about a guy who won your auction and is asking you to send it to Nigeria, then dont waste your time.

There is a scam going on ebay right now where this 0 feedback goon is clicking on the BUY IT NOW option on every auction with that option and refuses to pay for the item. He makes up some silly story about how he wants the item sent to Nigeria.

You can actually file a claim for unpaid item RIGHT NOW if you want to. You should actually do it now since it takes 7 days for ebay to credit you.

EDIT: If they are paying via check or money order, then you should ask them in advance what method of payment they will be using. If its an item you wanted only paypal payment on, then you should wait 3 days then file a claim. However, if its the scammer that I referred to on top, then dont waste your time and file a claim now. Ebay is investigating the scammer who is doing this to everyone on ebay so if you feel suspicious, then file the claim right away.

Normally a week, although I once bought something from a guy with a "Zero" rating once, and he negged my after 15 minutes.
What you have to remember is that it is Holiday season, and it is altogether possible the buyer sniped the item and wasn't there when the auction ended.
After a couple of days, send them a friendly email and remind them, then send a slightly less friendly one after a week.

I always pay immediately after I win the auction. Of course, some people may not be right by the computer when they win...but I always pay within an hour or so of winning, unless the seller asks me to defer for some reason. (Happened a few times that I was asked to defer until seller could calculate actual shipping charges).

Good luck.

Give them 3 days and then e-mail. If you don't get a reply I'd complain to ebay about a non-payer after 7 days (allow for holidays this time of year) and then relist.

Next time put in the sale blurb that you require payment within x days / hours of the auction ending.

when u put the description in of the item a lot of people say...
"now here are the boring bits...." and u put your terms and conditions inlcuding how long you will wait for payment.

some ebayers also say they will report buyers if they havent paid in the time said which i think is fair enough. if u have committed to buy somehting that u should jolly well buy it.
