The toll roads were built as a cash-generating venture. Yes, the tolls pay for construction and maintanence, but they are also intended to turn a profit, just like any other business. There are lots of toll roads in South Florida, New Jersey, and Oklahoma (among other places). Yes it sucks, but how else are you going to get palces?

It is at the point in New York State where there are lawsuits against the state thruway authority bevcause there are tolls in areas that directly violate laws that set a limit on how long they were to be in place.
There are line items in the state budget for repair and upkeep that are seperate from the tolls collected. That moeny is just used to justify the toll workers and the UNIONS that "represent" them.
There is no valid reason other than the "that's the way it is" attitude.

The wages, equipment, materials, and so on have also gone up in price too. The only toll road I know of to pull the toll booths was the one on I-30 between FTW and Dal. When they paid for the road, down came the toll booths. I live in Florida, we have many toll roads. I have to say they are nice roads though.

Yes, the roads are paid for but they're constantly repairing them and upgrading them to serve heavier traffic volume. The tolls may be pricy but consider the gas you save by taking the shortest most convenient route=which in these days and times could turn out to be a considerable savings of time and money!

Unfortunately, the roads have to be maintained and that costs money. Should the people who use the road pay for the road or should the general public pay for it? What would be fair? When I use a toll road, I don't mind paying for its use.

You still have to maintain the roads. What with the elements and all the weight on them every day, they fall apart without proper maintenance. Your toll dollars now pay for that.
