I just got a hamster 2 days ago, I already have 1. Their in seperate cages but my new hamster has diarhea and I was wondering if it could be because of a change in his food or if he could be sick, besides the diarhea he's very active but likes to sleep alot. If any one could help me out I would appreciate it.

Yep, it's probably the change of food, and/or a slight virus. He should be all right, just make sure he gets lots of fluids, and if he gets worse at all, take him to a vet,. because small animals deteriorate very quickly, and die easily when sick.

have u seen a lot or just once? he may have wettail & if so needs immediate vet attention to get an antibiotic. there is medicine at the petstore but it rarely works. he needs to see the vet ASAP because he will die from it within 48 hrs. immediately stop feeding him any fruits or veggies. give him a little plain yogurt - u can put it on a spoon and he'll lick it off. do not put him near the other hamster because its contagious. clean his bed thoroughly. make sure he's a quiet area and do not stress him further. do not handle him for now. is he eating ok? put a 50/50 solution of childrens plain Pedialyte/water in his water to prevent dehydration. make sure u wash your hands thoroughly so u dont pass it to the other one.

take your sick hamster to the vet, right away.
be sure to wash your hands and forearms VERY carefully (soap), after handling the sick hamster; otherwise, you may well make your other hamster sick, as well.
vet will most likely tell you so too, but be sure to clean the sick hamster's cage AT LEAST once a day.

due to their small size hamsters handle sickness very poorly, on their own. your little friend will need all your help to survive this.

good luck!

Hamsters can react to green food in this way. If you have given him something like lettuce which is a laxative to small mammals.
His main food should be nuts, grain and seeds.
Have a look on my webb site for care sheets.

Take him to the vet- TODAY. It could easily be a bacterial infection that is causing it. It is common and highly contaigous, and hamsters get very sick before they start to show signs so take him to the vet right away.

Hampsters are nocturnal, so they sleep a lot during the day.

The condition you're describing is "wet tail." It's pretty serious. You can buy somthing called Dry Tail at the petstore to give to your hampster to clear it up. If you don't, it's possible the hampster will die.

I don't know for hamsters, but this happened to my gerbil when I 1st brought him home. I was told it was due to new bedding/cage/food/environment, another words, stress. If you have a good, knowledgable pet store or pet supply store, also, here is a good site.
