Well, the College Board assigns a number, usually six digits long, to each high school. It's useful to the College Board when taking the SAT. When you put in your school's CEEB code on the place designated on the SAT (or maybe that's just when you register?), all the college board would have to do would be to scan the code, and then it would know which high school to send you SAT scores to. So everything can be done by the computer. It's also used on the common application (for college) for some reason, probably just so that the school can identify information about the school.

It's an identification code for your current or previous schools. Not sure what CEEB stands for though.
But I guess you could say that it's like how individuals have social security numbers as part of their ID.
