the best thing to do to lose weight is to play what you like, but if you can't decide, pick two activities that complement eachother
i read in a fitness magazine that if you play tennis you should swim too, because its you'll end up working your whole body.
tennis is a little upperbody and running around (biceps forarms calves mostly), then swimming is a little resistance and works thighs shoulders, etc. both sports play off core strength, so throw in some crunches and stuff here and there.
if you play soccer and jogging, all you're doing is running, so do two different things the play off different skills. mostly, just have fun and don't push too hard. good luck!

If you do any of these sports you will drop weight quickly. Jogging may be the beat way to go because he can do it alone. Be careful bot to push him. Go with him so it is not so boring. When he gets tired let him walk foe 500 yards the jog again, If he is in a basketball league of soccer remind him that the pros ride the Exercycle for long periods of time after their game is over. Jumping rope is another great way yo burn fat and gain muscle. Rock climbing is fun and also burns weight, Tennis, He should hit with a coach so it is not so much stopping and starting, Be involved and be positive, do not let him know what your agenda is. Cut his calories at meals. You can give him plenty of food just cut carbohydrates. Keep a chart of his progress so he can see how much farther he is going. Make it fun.

i myself do cross country, tennis, swimming, and figure skating. I think jogging helps u lose the weight faster though. treadmills really helped my 12 year old friend who lost four pounds in a month with the help of that and a nutritous diet provided by her doctor

I would say jogging, but you should go with whichever one he enjoys the most. You'll lose a lot more if you're having fun.

Swimming is a full body work out, that is very low to no impact.
