Does anybody know of any websites that might help me with preparing for baby? I need things like a crib or even just a bassinet. I can't find anything that will help my out in my situation. I live in Wichita, Kansas.

Also, I'm 35 weeks along so I don't have much time yet and I'm not having a shower thrown for me so that idea won't work.

And I meant that I have a limited income (not welfare) so I need to find places that help out.

Babies 'need' way less than you think.

Aside from clothes and diapers, you may need a crib if you are not planning on co-sleeping, a sling or carrier takes the place of a stroller and swing (and is very nice for baby) and a car seat. That's it for necessities. And of course breastfeeding will mean no formula, no bottles and less doctor's visits and an all round healthier babe.

Buy a car seat new, (unless you can get it from a person you can trust would not sell you one which has been in a car accident), and try craigslist.com and freecycle for used cribs (make sure they comply with current safety guidelines!) and baby carriers or slings. Sometime after 5 months you will probably need a highchair. Thrift stores are great for baby clothes and toys etc., as are target walmart etc. Many local libraries or YMCA's have toy lending libraries.

Good luck with your shopping and wishing you a safe and easy birth.

I am from around your area. I saw an ad in Kmart today for a fairly reasonably priced crib. You can always garage sale or try thrift stores. I am actually from KC but saw the ad in the Hutch News paper (visiting family in Hutch today). Do you guys have Once Upon a Child or Children's Orchard. Those are used baby stores. Babies or Toys R' US also has reasonable prices. If you can't afford a crib right know that is okay. The baby can sleep in a dresser drawer or something for now. Make sure you buy a NEW car seat. It is dangerous to buy used car seats as you do not know if they are more than 5 years old or have been in a car accident. I would start at Kmart. They seem to have nice stuff at a good price. As far as websites go I would try Babycenter.com.

thats a website i found just by doing a quick search...but unless you have the money for all that...believe me...you dont need all of it...i bought a few things on the list just bc it said i needed it and never used it

well in that case....talk to a church in your area....when i got pregnant with my son i called a pregnancy distress center (bc i had no idea what to do or where to start) and they were based out of a church...if i made under so much a year i could get free maternity clothes, cribs, bassinets, carseats, baby clothes, etc. it was a very good program for those in need

People obsess over baby needs. You really need very little. You can lay a newborn in a dresser drawer over a folded towel or two. Babies go through clothes and furniture so fast that it's silly to buy new when so much is available used.

Log on to freecycle.org. People are always offering baby things and everything there is free. Good luck!
