I just find it strange that they are going at it till the bitter end... if you agreed to a ceasefire, why not stop now? ( this is a serious question, please be respectful with your answers)

This is a complex issue. If I have time, I will edit my answer to tell you what is involved. The short answer is that now it is Sunday. The Israeli cabinet has finally voted to approve UNSC resolution 1701 for a cease-fire. The cease-fire will not be implemented until Monday at 5 am GMT. Israel is making a final effort to destroy Hezbollah's missiles. Syria is making an all-out effort to send more missiles and anti-tank weapons to Lebanon. Syrian tanks are building up along the Israel-Syrian border. Hezbollah maintains that it reserves the right to defend itself against Israel.

Think of it the same as two people in a knife fight who have agreed to put their weapons down. So far noone is seriously injured - but they still have their weapons. If one puts his down first, then the other has a clear opportunity to cause massive damage to the other. They have to put them down at the exact same time. With only two people, it is fairly easy to coordinate. Imagine doing it with some 50,000 people - armed with sophisticated long range weaponry. One one side you have an army with clear channels of communication, rank, and order. On the other you have a group of individuals fighting in unison - with no clear rank structure, and no clear channels of communication. Why do you think the time table was set so far in the future?

CNN and FOX News need something to report so the governments of Lebanon and Israel agreed to continue fighting until they find another story.
