There is no magic to being a private detective. That is, they
don't have some law giving them access to information that you
don't have.
They usually do have contacts in strange places which makes it
easier to get information - and they are willing to stand around
with a camera where most of us don't have the time.
No, as a private citizen (or PI) do not have the right to look
at someone else's phone records.
Yes, there are PIs who do, mostly by bribing the right people
or using social engineering to fool phone company administrators
into giving them up.
No, as a private citizen, you can't just login and look at
Internet Service Provider records or magically gain access
to a computer to see what transactions have happened on it.
However, PIs can employ hackers to do illegal things.
If you have access to your husband's computer and you knew
the right tricks, you could break into his computer yourself.
By the way, if you're looking for *P*R*O*O*F*, computer
records aren't very good. I can create a dummy record
that says you are my long lost uncle from the Kenyan
alps.
Photographs (even though they can be dummied up) are
still the best evidence.
Do you think he is cheating in any other form than computer
sex? Has he ever met this person?

Need Proof...
If you are looking to prove that your husband is cheating and trying to get proof, I'd suggest taking a different route. While a private detective or police agency can subpoena phone records, text messages and potentially IM's, this legally doesn't constitute him cheating.
If you're spending money on a PI, I'd suggest attempting to capture him in the act of doing something physical, rather than just communicating.
If you yourself can't handle the chit chat he's having by texting and IMing..then you need to take things into your own hands.
Money might be better spent, shutting down the text option or cell phone period. Plus some computer gurus can check the cookies on a computer to see what is sent via email.
Hang in there!

Why do you need proof? If you know, you know.
Anyways: Yes, a private detective can help you. A good PI will be able to tell you how to collect the proof you need and help you collect it.
BUT - You could also help yourself.
IM messages can be saved. Check the preferences tab on Yahoo IM and set your options to save. (Messenger Tab, Preferences, Archive)
There are also programs avaiable that will store and save every web site, email sent, IM sent etc.... no matter what he does to his history etc... This program will run in the background only accessible by the person who intstalled it. It does not even show up in the program list. If you do not know it's there and know how to access it, you never know it's there. Only proble is I can't remember what the damn thing is called.

My husband went thru a nasty divorce several years ago. He was able to submit IM's in court. The problem you have is those IM's can be doctored and it is ultimately up to the judge if he will consider it as proof. It depends on your credibility. As far as a private detective goes, he could find proof..and it depends on the law whether or not he can pull phone records.

Better to find out the reason of cheating. If he is fond of variety then think why cann't you present urself in different styles. Well if all the efforts to lure him are failed, only then u can try to take the help of outside agencies because if he comes to know of your spying on him, he can become more angry and may also go out of your hands fully and openly and socially as well. BUT just prepare yourself of extreme consequences like divorce before spying on him. If you have children and he is paying for all the expenses then you can just ignore for the sake of childrens' future. I know this can be painful but at least in India, there are many difficulties for an estranged or divorced wife. As people generally think that a divorcee is always available for sex... I hope u CAN UNDERSTAND AND THEN MAKE UR MIND UP... HOPE FOR THE BEST...

I just pulled up my yahoo messenger and under contacts theres something called message archives and that will pull up previous chatting I dont know how far back it goes but maybe that will help. Do you want proof so you can leave him? cuz you can do that without the proof and like the other person responded if you feel strongly enough to consider a PI then you already have some clues that hes cheating so most probabaly is, good luck in the future

Actually, you can by a program on the internet that will allow you to pull phone records, but a PI would also be able to follow the cheater and get pictures for you. If he has a cell phone and you look up numbers that he has dialed you can go to anywho.com and look up any number that is not a cell number. Good luck.

You might be able to get the phone records pulled. But no one probably could get the other ones without a court order, and then maybe still not.
Do a little detective work. If there are kids, get someone to watch them while you do a little following. But yes, a PI would get the proof you need. If you suspect, there's probably a good chance you are right.
And don't go to "cheaters".

Maybe, IF the company keeps actual records of text message content, most of them don't, it takes up too much space but there is a record of it. You can probably check his account online if he's your husband you know his number, you two aren't on the same plan. If you view your account online, and again depending on the company, you can see incoming and outgoing calls and texts, (I've been gathering them for a friend of my hubbys who believes his wife is cheating on him, they work out of town). IM's can be saved and read, you just have to find them, depends on which one it is. But the real question is why do you NEED proof? If you truly believe this its enough to tell you the relationship is NOT what it should be and knowing the details doesn't really get you anywhere, you already know what you need to know!

If you have the ability to get into his cell phone account on line (I did). You can review his statements for each month usually year to date. I am in the same situation, and was able to get all the info without a detective. Go with your gut, its always right! good luck!!!!
